Following potential 2015 draftees

Here's the thing with SF: Gordon Hayward appears to be more productive there than as an SG. His mobility and IQ advantage at SF appears to be a bigger factor than his size advantage at SG. The numbers seem to suggest that if you compare last year to this year. So the idea of bringing in a supposed SF like Looney or Johnson may not pay off. Whereas, bringing in an SG that's long and can shoot might be a better move.

That's one of the reasons I like Oubre as a 2-way SG for the Jazz. His quickness and length between Exum and Hayward fits our defensive strategy to a tee, and he brings enough offense to fit in with the other starters.

The problem is that because Bryce Cotton had to show out in a meaningless game against Dallas, we might not be able to get Oubre.

booker would also be an option with this thinking or RJ hunter

Why move him from a position where he'd create matchup problems if he can shoot/dribble. He's got enough size to play the four. He might be able to play spot minutes as a SF but I wouldn't draft him projecting him to become a 3 and D guy.

Because I think we would want to develop his versatility and play our 1st round pick as much as possible. Hard to find minutes on our roster for a rookie if he is just a PF or just a SF. Looney's appeal is that he can guard SF's so it's not like I'm suggesting KKK level ****ery.

Scouts seem to think Looney can guard NBA 3's. This isn't some **** I'm making up.

Not sure why it's so ridiculous to project him as a 3&D when his calling card is defense and he has shown 3pt range...

It really doesn't matter where Gordon plays, it's who he plays with. Let's stop acting like there is any difference offensively between SG and SF in our offense. They are wings. Some handle the ball and create, some don't.

You draft by tier first and then by need within that tier. I think Oubre is on the same tier as Johnson and Kaminsky. I think Dunn might be there too. So even though these guys aren't at positions of abject need, I think we would still consider them.

And everyone's tiers are different, funny how that works.

Yeah, I lol at Jazzfanz saying "draft BPA" when everyone's draft boards are going to be different. Someone who is BPA to us may not be BPA to DL. Most of Jazzfanz thought Luke Babbit was BPA over Hayward.

I hated Babbit but I will say I didn't like Gordon either.

Of course everyone's BPA is going to be different. This isn't an exact science, that's why these threads reach 1000 pages every year. When people say, "draft BPA" they're saying that the FO simply needs to take who they view as the BPA, not that there's some magical BPA list created by the Basketball Gods that all GMs have access to.
