Chicago got the #11 pick and Anthony Randolph in exchange for the #16, #19 and a future 2nd round pick. PERHAPS Utah makes the argument Hood is much more valuable than last year's draft position. However, the unknown - and promise of finding the "steal" of the draft - often makes a pick more valuable than a known commodity who is nice, but not great.
In the first case. it's hard to know who won that trade. Orlando picked Payton, but Saric didn't come over for Philly. In the second trade, Chicago got McDermott and Denver picked Nurkic and Harris. It's usually pretty expensive to move up and doesn't always get you a good return.
