I'm right there with this guy. I'd take Winslow top 3 (at least for the Jazz). Having Exum/Hayward/Winslow/Favors/Gobert. No only do you have good-great defenders at every position, you also have above average height/length at every position. Starting 5 averaging 6'9". DL needs to find a way to move up to 5 and get him if he doesn't go top 4. Hezonja is just too big of a question mark for me, and Johnson disappeared too often.

I still really like Johnson. He is Ron Artest... if he figures things out he will be great in the NBA with all the switching and small ball.
 
Another comp for Johnson... Draymond Green. Dray has a longer reach, but Johnson is more athletic I think.

I agree with this. I think Johnson's best scenario is as a highly mobile and versatile PF--like Green or a younger version of David West. Paul Millsap is also similar. Johnson's athleticism and okay handle will be a bigger advantage against PFs than his strength will be against SFs out on the floor. He should be able to hold his own defensively against most PFs, save for a few like Blake Griffin and Zach Randolph.

The other thing I've noticed is that Gordon Hayward seems to be more effective this year as an SF than he was as a SG. He's still being asked to create almost as much as he did last year, but it turns out that Hayward's mobility and creativity as an SF is more valuable to the Jazz than his size advantage as an SG. So, his most natural and effective role really is an SF.

That being the case, if we're looking to maximize talent around Hayward, we either need a guy who can swing to the PF role (like Johnson, Looney or Lyles) or a guy who can start next to Hayward at SG (like Winslow or Hezonja). Winslow and Hezonja are the higher-tier talents.

I could see the Jazz passing on Oubre if they think he's most naturally an SF, especially since we already have Hood to play that back-up role. But that's just a hunch.

I dunno I just think Winslow/Johnson are safer picks from the physical standpoint, they'll match up well against NBA players at least physically. Defensively they are also more solid.


Those are the questions I would have about Hezonja, but I know that he has a higher upside offensively vs those 2.

Looney really does look like an exceptional rebounder and a good defender for a guy who doesn't run and jump all that well. It speaks to how good his timing and technique are, plus his extra length. Some of those rebounds in traffic reminded me of a young David Benoit (who was a really good rebounder early in his career).

He's a unique player, and he actually fits the Draymond Green skillset pretty well. For that reason, I could see a team taking him in the top 10-12. I don't think he's going to score a whole lot--maybe 9 - 12 points a night, like Marvin Williams does. He might get to the line a bit. I'm not sure how much he'd really do to help the Jazz get to the next level though. He'd be a stretch 4 of sorts off the bench. I don't think there's much point trying to play him as a big SF.
