Following potential 2015 draftees

What changed your mind?

I don't think I gave him much of a chance at first tbh. Part of that is because I wasn't too interested in drafting a big when we already had Gobert, Favors, Kanter, and Booker. After the Kanter trade, I decided to abandon any preconceived notions I had concerning Looney and look at him with an unbiased eye. When I did that, I saw: elite length, good lateral quickness (that when combined with his outstanding length, gives him the potential to guard SFs; even DX thinks he will be able to), potential as a floor spacer (42% from 3 on 52 attempts, which is a noticeably bigger sample size than that of Vonleh, Aaron Gordon, Portis, etc.), decent ball handling for someone his size, good intangibles and BBIQ (a positive A/TO ratio bodes well for him).

I think the goal of this team should be to maintain our current level of elite defense while adding improved perimeter shooting to space the floor; Looney offers both potential as a versatile defender and floor spreader, while also showing promising enough IQ as a teenager to learn the nuances of Quin's system.

That's all without taking into account advanced analytics. Every method seems to peg Looney as a stud. I view analytics as a tool to help us see things that we may not see on first glance with the naked eye. These stats are not omniscient, but they can be a great aid in breaking away from the pre-established paradigms and point out potential in a player that we may not have originally seen. Analyitics seemed to point out that maybe there was more to Looney and he was deserving of revisiting.

tl;dr

Looney has long arms and a cool name.

I can totally see where spycam is coming from, but I just have a tough time getting psyched about Kevon Looney. IDK.

So any guesses who the Gobert of this draft will be? I have been watching some film and reading and such and I kind of like Jerian Grant. Good pedigree. And watching him, he certainly plays smooth and in control and seems to be smart about it. He is older but might do us well as a solid backup. I am just thinking that if we can't trade up for an impact guy, then it might make sense to trade down and look for that sleeper and stash some assets.

Candidates to me: Upshaw if he gets it together, Jaiteh(french centers ehh?), Richaun Holmes, and Tokoto (I see a Corey Brewer like player, which is pretty good for second round).

If I had to pick one I'd go with Holmes.

Since we didn't get Paul George, what if we get George de Paula?

Crazy profile, would love to see him working with Quin, think that could work out really well. Probably would mean we'd be looking at some roster moves, as having him/Burke/Exum would be a bit excessive in the young PG category. Not a big fan of the draft and stash route, so if we did get him I'd like to bring him over.

I like him. Was saying yesterday we should trade down for him or Wright. Really want to move on from Trey

I agree with this on both looney and turner. I can see why we'd take those guys instead of Frank but I watched them play so I have my doubts.

If turner is there I wonder if we could take him and trade down with a team that would take looney... Maybe with Boston or Milwaukee and get looney and another pick or player.
