Looney's mobility for a guy who can play the 4 is really good. He's not AK, but his mobility, IQ and versatility should make him successful in a system that spreads the floor, moves the ball and gives everyone the chance to make reads. I just don't see him scoring much.

Not sure he showed much explosion. I fear he will have trouble finishing in the NBA from watching those highlights. To me he looks like a poor mans Vonleh.

Are you saying he's not AK but he shares some of AK's game? I've never heard the AK comp before, but if he's a less effective defender but better 3 pt shooting AK I'd be all over that.

I'm not directly comparing him to AK, but one of the things that made AK effective offensively was his outstanding mobility and ability to make passes as a combo forward. Looney has a bit of that, just not quite at the same level. Having a PF who can put the ball on the deck, change directions and do something productive is an advantage. That's what Zach Lowe's article seemed to be alluding to. You want your PF to be able to pass, handle, shoot with range and attack close-outs. Looney *should* be able to do those things, even if his athleticism remains average.

Right. That's the downside right now, and why I prefer Johnson and Portis. Looney can get into the paint, but I'm not sure if he'll be able to finish.

That's basically what his potential is. He's drawn lots of comparisons to Lamar Odom.

He had a hip injury and wasn't able to get in shape for the season. He's still not fully healed iirc.

he reminds me of kwame brown in that he may have intriguing individual aspects to his game, but will never be able to put it all together to be a productive player. if anything, i think Turner will be a solid shot blocking specialist. he runs like a clumsy sped though.

I think expecting Looney to become dramatically more explosive probably isn't going to happen. I love seeing that he can shoot, handle, and PASS though. If he can do that plus play defense I would think he has a good shot at being something in the ballpark of a poorish man's Diaw, which would still be a great player.
