Following potential 2015 draftees

Portis doesn't always finish above the rim, but he looks like he'll finish inside and off drives better than Looney. That should also buy him a bit more space on his jumper. He can use his mobility against bigger players and his length against smaller players.

Exactly. He can beat smaller backup 4's in the post, or take bigger backup 5's out on the perimeter (fixed). He can switch every PNR and he is more of a sure thing than Looney or Turner IMO.

The best thing about Turner possibly falling to us is that teams may offer us more to trade a few spots down to get him.

Gerald Wallace-caliber athlete.

He kind of reminds me of a stronger Corey Brewer. He has that kind of lightning in a bottle, out of control style that is very exciting. He can make plays on both ends of the court with his length and pure athletic ability. If he can find consistency with his handle and shot, you have a good 3&D role player.

I would understand if we draft a foreign stash pick (like a Timothe Luwawu, who also looks like he has a lot of potential) but if we go American prospect that we develop in-house, I want Qualls.

The only real negatives on Portis are: Maybe just role player potential and his funky form may limit how far he can extend his range. Limited explosiveness doesn't worry me because he isn't limited agility wise at all.

But his form is working for him, it's not like he hasn't been getting very good results on his jumpers as a #1 scoring option.

DX highlighted he isn't a good defensive rebounder, but that is something he can easily work on given his tenacity and physical strength and length.

The Portis play that caught my attention was at 1:25 of this vid. He starts a break, makes a tight cross to get by a defender then lobs a pass to Qualls in rhythm. I don't remember many 6'11" guys doing that. Probably Blake Griffin could make that play, probably KG, etc. It shows pretty advanced feel.

I like Portis, just think he is taking this "I envision the opponent slapping my mom" thing too far.

Whatever works. Haven't Jazzfanz been complaining about how Favors isn't emotive enough as an on-court personality? Well this dude has some KG level on-court expressiveness.

About 100 pages back I compared Portis' sophomore stats to Rasheed Wallace's soph stats. They were very close. What do you guys think about Horace Grant as a potential comp for Portis?

So the players I like for the Jazz fall pretty much in the following order (as of today):

- Russell
- Hezonja
- Porzingis
- Johnson
- Oubre / Turner
- Portis

One of these guys will almost certainly be there at 12. My opinion is that the player the Jazz really want currently mocked in the 9 - 12 range is Johnson. If we didn't screw up and win an extra meaningless game or two at the end of the season, we'd be in a good position to get him.
