Following potential 2015 draftees

It's this time of year, I decided to do my big board, too. I think it'd be interesting to see what people think mid-December vs sometime closer to the draft and how our perception of the guys in the draft will change. So for the people who've been following some of the prospects I challenge you to post your own big 10 boards specifically in mind with the needs and system of the Jazz and what we want to achieve. Here's mine:

1. Towns
2. Okafor
3. Mudiay
---> those 3, I think, are the players we should draft without consideration for our needs simply on the "best player available" basis(I'm putting Towns first on basis of potential and needs). I think those are players we cannot afford to miss on even if we already have good players or projects at those positions.
4. Porzingis --> need for stretch 4 and potential
5. Stanley Johnson -> need for perimeter defender
6. Justise Winslow -> need for perimeter defender
---> I was higher on Stanley Johnson before I got to watch him in games in which he was consistently getting beat off the dribble. Winslow is getting much closer to him on my list than previously...
7. Mario Hezonja
8. Chris McCoulough
9. D'Angello Russell
10. Kevon Looney

Pretty good board.

I am also getting higher on WCS by the game. Right now I have him at 12.
 
Looks like McCullough is moving up the board pretty fast. Keep an eye on him to move up even a few more spots by March.

I'm not sure what to think about WCS. He's the kind of athlete that could be dominant, but the skills are limited. It reminds me a bit of Chris Andersen of the Heat.

Anyone think WCS will develop like Favors has?

He has been hitting his shots, both hooks and 16 footers.. but I agree he is offensively limited. I LOVE his defense though. I don't think there's a player in all of cbb, at any position, he can't guard.

It's amazing watching him shut down point guards out on the perimeter.

I think with Hayward as a max player settling in at small forward, and with both Burks and Hood showing potential, the Jazz will look to draft a mobile and versatile PF before they draft a defensive wing like Johnson or Winslow. If Winslow or Hezonja look like major talents that the Jazz fall in love with, I could see them going this route. Otherwise, I think Looney, McCullough, Turner and Porzingis are the guys outside the top 3 the Jazz will hone in on, with WCS possibly getting some consideration if he shows developing skills.

His free-throws are improving. That's a positive sign. When Favors was a rookie, he was strictly a pick-and-roll player and drop-off/putback scorer.
 
If Hayward, Exum and Burks are all good facilitators and shooters, then maybe the Jazz can get by with offensively limited bigs. However, it would sure be great if the Jazz had a PF who could put the ball on the floor and create for himself without bringing the game to a grinding halt.

Agree to some degree, I just don't think Burks has played at the level we expected him to play before the season started and if it turns out he can't play the role within the team that we want him to play and that his only way to be productive is to break out of the system or even worse - that he can't produce against starters the way he was producing last year against second units, we might be looking at other alternatives and try to make him our 6th man who can provide some scoring off the bench. Both Stanley Johnson and Justise Winslow actually have shown pretty good 3p shooting so far this season(both at 38.5% right now) and if they can produce at that level AND be elite defenders I don't see why we wouldn't draft one of them and try to work out a wing-combo of Hayward-Johnson or Hayward-Winslow. It is entirely possible that one of them can be a two-way player and with players like Kahwi and Butler being the model for great perimeter defenders, who have developed some offensive game, I think it's worth taking a shot at them.

I don't really like Turner much. I've been thoroughly unimpressed with everything I've seen of him this year and especially against the NBA length of Kentucky... he was quite horrible in that one.
