Following potential 2015 draftees

A couple thoughts on bigs....

Yes, they can take a while to develop, but not necessarily. Gobert is in his 2nd year with limited PT as a rookie. Anthony Davis is in his 3rd year and is an MVP candidate. Bigs who are for real tend to have an impact by their 2nd year.

I think the Jazz don't have a great solution at PF if they don't think Kanter is their guy,...or if they don't think they can pay Kanter right now. If Kanter keeps developing the way he has been this year, he could become comparable to an Al Horford--at least on offense. He'd have trade value.

Take a look at what Porzingis did in his last game, and tell me he wouldn't be an ideal PF to play next to Favors or Gobert.

Regarding wings, I think we have to ask ourselves how much better the wings in this draft are than the wings we already have in Burks and Hood. I think Hezonja and Winslow could be an upgrade.

Loved the analysis on Porzingis. He has GREAT potential.

Good post. However, if Gobert is really the starter, then either Favors or Kanter would be moved. The Jazz aren't going to pay $10 - $12 mil/year for a back-up big. The Jazz could come out of the draft with Porzingis and look to trade Favors or Kanter for an athletic wing in the next year or two, or they could go after a wing in free agency. Look at how guys like Trevor Ariza, Demarre Carroll are performing as mid-tier FAs. I just don't know if Johnson is worth a high draft pick to the Jazz right now. Whereas, a 3-man rotation of Gobert, Porzingis and either Favors or Kanter would be flat-out awesome. Why? Because Porzingis can shoot from all over the floor and pass better than any big we have right now, and Gobert might become the best defensive center in the league. Then we have either Kanter or Favors to maul the other team's 2nd unit.

Exum + Hayward + 3/D + Porzingis + Gobert = contender

i like the thought but that team wouldn't be competing for 3 to 4 years from now and possibly contending 6 to 7 yrs

I know its cliche but some of his stuff looks very dirkish. Also like Johnson... We really need one of our guys on the wing to be a consistent 3 pt shooter. I know everyone thinks we need a stretch four, myself included, but we really just need shooting from any of the wings positions. This draft has a lot of what we need so hopefully we'll add one of the missing pieces.

Draft Porzingis and keep Kanter. Probably need time to assess whether Enes or Derrick works better with Rudy and can then be the backup 5. I'm actually leaning towards Enes because we'd have him for a couple more seasons. Favors is going to come up for a contract again and will cost a lot of money. Porzingis gets Booker's minutes and also has a year to adjust to the NBA game before you're asking him to play 30 mins/per.

As for PG, I don't think Dante is ready. That's why I proposed getting a vet PG to start and split time with Dante. Trade Trey + Booker (expiring) to a team looking to go younger/cheaper at the position. Or use the MLE on a veteran. In 2016, trade Favors or Kanter for a SG and bring Alec off the bench.

Favors's contract expires only 1 year before Kanter's would if we offer him a 4 year contract or at the same time if we get him on a 3 year contract. Also, this is probably the worst reason to keep one player over the other. I'd rather keep the better player and have an option on him whenever his contract expires, than keep the worse player because I can afford him for one more year. In essence what that reasoning can be reduced to is "I want bad player for 4 years, instead of good player for 3, because it will cost me less"... unless you think that Favors and Kanter have comparable value to the team... in which case, you can make that argument, but I'd contest that this proposition is indefensible.

I am getting to like porzingis more and more but I keep getting flashbacks of Bargnani, gallinari, vesely and tskistivili (sp). not comparing their games just how they have never lived up to expectations.

True. That's why I almost prefer Johnson at this point. He's supposedly a great defender and rebounder. Had a fantastic night tonight 17/7/3 on 8-10 shooting in a blowout over Michigan. Shooting 47%/39% thus far. Draft him and we immediately get rid of Ingles' minutes.

Many had said that as well and I tend to agree. He looks legit to me.
