What's new

Following potential 2017 draftees...

They traded their second first-round pick to Portland as part of the DWill trade then drafted CJ in the 2nd round.

Right, except I thought it was 3 firsts we traded for Deron.

Edit: Last pick was for the next year.

Damn, this just makes me realize how old I'm getting. Seems like yesterday we were drafting Deron.

stitches wasted our 30th pick smh

It's not wasted. Believe it or not CBA has some archaic rule that allows teams to keep the rights to players that return to school after the draft(NCAA doesn't allow it, but the NBA does, so that's what we are going with in this mock off-season) for the next 3 years. In other words, we get Hamidou whenever he gets in the draft. I think he will probably be a lottery pick next year. And we got him at 30 this year in our mock off-season. It's a bit like a NCAA stash.

When you see him play next year you going to see that you wasted it.

My memory may not be exact, but I'm pretty sure Utah gave CJ miles a 1st round promise, and then when that pick was traded, they ended up drafting him in the 2nd round.

Anyway, these so called promises are probably never guarantees anyway. I'm sure teams make it clear that it's possible something could come up, but they are 97% they take so and so with a certain pick.

It would be dumb to completely handcuff your team when you never know what opportunity might pop up, such as a trade offer or a certain player falling that nobody thought would.

Edit: What happened is that Utah was able to use the pick they promised to CJ in the trade for Deron Williams, so Utah would have been looney to keep that promise.

DL is a straight shooter. I'm sure if he did promise someone he would throw the caveat that if we move the pick we can't promise anything. He has good relationships with agents as well. I can't see him backing out or making false promises.

One thing I really appreciate about DL is the guy is so genuine. I just believe him... he isn't perfect but he's exactly the type of guy you want to work with and can trust. I've complained about some of his failings but I think the team, gm, market match is basically perfect. Hope he's here for a long long time.

Anyone else like Tyler Lydon... I think he might be flying under the radar and I'd happily draft him at 24. Great shooter, good passer, gets more steals and blocks than you might think, good enough size for the 4. Needs to get into P3 and get the Gordon Hayward treatment, but a lot to like there and no fatal flaw.

Bad work ethic isnt a fatal flaw?
