What's new

Following potential 2017 draftees...

You are acting like they are in some desperate position, they aren't. They could easily trade Marcus Morris or Tobias Harris, who are both on team friendly contracts. They don't have any horrendous contracts.

They would probably have 0 interest in Favors. Van Gundy wants to build around Drummond like he did Dwight, 4 shooters around one rim attacking big. The guys they would want off Utah would be Ingles/Hood/Johnson. Their problem this year was Drummond stagnated and Jackson had knee issues that really hampered him, along with his bad attitude. They should get improvement from those two this next year and be a playoff team again.

I think if they want Hood, you have to at least consider that for 12. It could be like SA's trade when they sent Hill off for Kawhi Leonard (Hill was traded the summer entering his contract year of rookie deal, just like where Hood is now). Now, the Jazz have to actually like someone as much as Kawhi in that position to do that ofc. It might come down to how much they actually like a guy like Mitchell. Ingles would be the starting 2 guard and Mitchell would hopefully emerge in the future.

There are a lot of surface similarities between Mitchell and Leonard as far as positional length, strength, and character go. Both had questionable offensive games coming into the NBA, but were thought of as being instant contributors n the defensive end.

At first I kind of balk at offering Hood up, but then again, he is so inconsistent and Utah has proven to be a good team without him. I would be surprised if Detroit would do Hood for 12, but who knows, maybe they would. He definitely fits a need for them as a shooter who could help right away. Plus, with the contract we are about to give Ingles, he looks like he might be best as our SG of the immediate future given his defensive excellence he has showcased. A 3 or 4 year contract with Mitchell as his backup would be a perfect timeline for Mitchel to develop while getting minutes.

I don't think you can trade Hood for 12 with Hayward's decision in question. That move may just encourage him to leave and if he leaves, I'd rather hang on to hood.

The fact that the Jazz have the ability to include Diaw's contract and still include a decent pick in the draft (24), makes Utah an attractive trade partner for Detroit potentially. Donovan Mitchell and Zach Collins would motivate the Jazz to take a hard look at it.

Don't laugh yet -- I wonder if Detroit likes Lyles at all.

But then again, I wonder if the Jazz like Lyles at all. They could pick up another a PF at 24 or 30 if they keep one of those picks.

You did read the part that says Detroit wants players to help them win now, right?

Maybe, but Hood also played like *** most of the year. I'm sure Hayward believes in Hood, but he cant deny his inconsistency and injury issues. I dont think trading Hood would hurt Hayward's belief in the Jazz too much. I'm pretty sure the Jazz can talk to Hayward about these things without it being tampering, right?

It would suck because I like Hood and think he can be a pretty good player, but the injury issues are undeniable and his inability to play well with injuries is even more apparent. And while I like Mitchell a lot, I dont have unwavering faith in his abilities to become an above average NBA starter, but I do love his fit on the Jazz. He seems to have "Jazz DNA" as Lindsey likes to say.

They're heading towards the luxury tax with a 37-win team.

But they arent at the LT yet are they? Even if KCP gets a max, they are still under the LT, right? I dont see the need to dump salary rn if they can just add talent through trades (like it has been reported, not what fans want on message boards). Remember SVG is the coach/manager. He is managing the team so the coach can look good and keep his job.

Maybe next year they have to worry about that, but I'm guessing SVG wants to run it back with his team while adding some vet pieces. With a healthy Jackson and hopefully an improved Drummond, they should be a playoff team. I dont see any reason for them to hit he panic button and start dumping contracts unless they get good offers.

Yeah, but can the Jazz pay Hood next year? That's the key question in all of this.

Yes, you are also correct, but you have to win the hand your playing right now. Keep Hood to either win Hayward or as a stop-gap if Hayward departs. If Hayward stays Hood will still have value up to the trade deadline. If Hayward leaves Hood and Ingles are your starting wings and you can decide if you want to pay him big money next summer, or move him before the trade deadline.

I think there will still be buyers through the season, even if those offers look different than offers made leading up to the draft.

Of course all this works very well in my mind because I am risk averse and like to proceed cautiously. Maybe Mr. O'Lindsey wants to swing for the fences.

Like I said, it depends on how much the Jazz like Mitchell. If they really like him, I dont see a reason to hold off on the inevitable (if it is that way in the Jazz's mind/long-term plan). The emergence of Ingles just changes everything and gives us a reasonably priced starter who is consistent (what you want out of the 4th/5th option on offense). Is Hood really worth keeping given his inconsistency and health?

Side Note: If Hayward leaves I really ****ing hate the idea of Rodney Hood being our first option in his contract year. Just seems like a recipe for him getting overpaid.
