Following Potential 2018 Draftees

Just watched the video with him. He actually seems like a really nice kid. And he does look young. Any chance he could grow another inch?
He could grow into that 6'4 listing but i wouldnt bet on it. Good kid tho He was always considered a top 40 or 50 recruit but sometime a year ago it became apparent he might be the best long term PG prospect in the class and if not for Romeo Langford the top guard overall in 2018, and Simons has been on the fast track to the NBA ever since.

Crowder just shot 32% from the field and 33% from 3 in the playoffs. I dont think anyone loves Jae right now, which is probably why the Jazz won't trade him. His value is at rock bottom.

Also sample size on this comment... career he is 43/34... not amazing but the playoff numbers were in large part him trying to fill a bigger role than he is capable of.

He has value, but i agree with the larger point of he doesn't get us crazy far unless it is package of 21, Crowder, and taking on some additional salary.

A full offseason with the team...next year is a big one for Jae. Isn't he also in a contract year next year?

He was really bad in the regular season too.

I just dont think he has any value as a trade piece outside of his salary matching. I dont think him and 21 moves you up any slots in the draft unless you are taking back a worse salary. I'm not saying he doesnt have any value as a player to the Jazz.

2 years left on his deal.

He was, but that can easily be explained by the offseason death of his mother, trade, etc.

I think he has value above his salary matching, but maybe not a ton. Again if you are taking worse salary in the trade I think it amplifies the value and gets you somewhere. I don't think I'd do 21/Crowder for 15/Smith/Meeks for instance... unless DL is high on Okobo or Brown I can't see them giving up a ton to move up and get them. I honestly don't think Brown gets past 12/13 and I think there is a 25-35% shot that Okobo is available. I'm not even sure where Okobo is on DL's list or if he feels there is a big enough difference between Heurter, Evans, Okobo, Knox etc to justify a trade like that.

I was simply posing the question... I don't think another team's GM will just look at Jae's last year... they look at all the data... I'm not sure all the shine has come off with him. I do think the perception of who he is might exceed what he actually is, but I also expect him to be better next year... either here or somewhere else.

Players I’d like realistically at 21 would be;
Keita Bates Diop
Kevin Huerter
Ellie Okobo

Personally I think the Jazz draft Keita Bates Diop. He was the player heavily linked before Huerter, he’s worked out for the Jazz, he’s not so heavily linked with the Jazz now & from what I’ve heard he’s only impressed during work outs.

With the uncertainty surrounding favours contract I think the Jazz would be wise to draft him. As a back up or replacement he’s an excellent fit. Also In free agency none of the stretch fours are as promising as KBD. Most are restricted free agents and risky options.

I think the Jazz will trade for another pick in the 20’s & end up with Huerter & KBD. To me this draft has a high floor & the only drop off is how prepared the second round picks are to contribute as opposed to the first round picks.

Obviously first round picks will be better but surprises, steals & bargins are available from pick 14 onwards.

I don’t see Okobo falling past Hawks & Spurs. I also want to see if any lottery picks work out with the Jazz.

Locke really braced us for Grayson Allen in his latest podcast. I want to murder him.

Talked about how in the 20's range teams should probably just go for safe 4 year type players.

Why would people question Crowder? He is on a bargain deal and his skill set allows him to play against any opponent. He isn't perfect, but we need guys like him in either the first or second unit.

Most importantly, the front office has been after him for a while and finally got him. Our player assets at the draft are Burks and Bradley and that's about it.

Locke may be referencing Jalen Brunson... If we go Allen or Brunson I will be depressed. I get the "get a guy who will be in the league 10 years argument"... but you can get that guy in FA and generally don't pay a premium. Even if you take a Simons or Brown Jr. and they flash a little they increase their trade value. Like what would OG be worth in a trade (he did more than flash, but still)? Or like Bam?

Take Justin Jackson... who played a little and was bad to okayish... no one expects much more cuz he old.

I'd be sad.
