Following Potential 2025 Draftees

Pels may be positioning themselves to move up in the draft. Could even be with the Jazz (7+23 = 5). One of Fears, Kon or Tre will get to #7. If Tre doesn't make it to #5, maybe the Jazz would do this...

This makes more sense than the BRK deal you mentioned.
We can see how the board ends up falling on draft night. Take Ace knowing one or two of Wash/Brooklyn/NOP are angling for him. If you can land Fears, 19 and a future first its a way better deal. Fears has a good shot at being there at 8 (or one of the consensus 6... because there are always goofy things).

Jazz also might be enamored with Essengue or some other dude.

7+23 makes sense and I'd do that for Johnson or Kon but not Fears personally.

IND can trade all their picks now. No stepien rule to hold them back bc the rule doesn't look backwards.
Makes more sense for Indiana than NOP. I would think 2026 pick is a better asset than 23 right now but another team may view it differently. I think its about the budget for them and for NOP they either like someone or think its gonna help on draft night I guess.

If the Jazz are keyed in on Fears, I don't think they risk trading back to #8. Jazz are probably thinking Tre/Kon/Fears in some order at this point.

1- Flagg
2- Harper
3- Edgecombe
4- Johnson
5- With Johnson gone, Jazz trade back, Pels take Ace
6- Fears/Knueppel
7- Fears/Knueppel
8- ???

I like Essengue as much as anyone, but his lack of on-ball creation in the half-court stifles his star potential at this stage. (You can make an argument that Fears has some star potential because he's dynamic with the ball.)

Having an extra pick in the early 20s is interesting. Jazz reportedly like Coward. For the amount that David Locke has mouthed off about Will Riley, there could be something there. Jazz also worked out Drake Powell.

One of Malauch/Queen/CMB/Kas/Bryant could sneak in there. Take Ace and then watch the board unless Was comes correct. Take Kon at 6. If they love Fears see if NOP take him or if he slides to Bkn. Leverage appropriately.

The draft rarely goes chalk. One team likes a guy more than consensus and the guy you want is available at 8 maybe.

If NOP did the deal to work with us I think they would have kept the 2026 pick. Especially for a team in our position we don't need another pick this year to deal with.

If Charlotte reaches on Maluach, then a world of possibilities open up.
