I don’t necessarily disagree, but there’s not a ton to Tre Johnson outside of his scoring either….but both are extremely good scorers. Ian is probably a tier down due to size/age, but they can’t be too far apart IMO.

Johnson has some passing to his game and he has the size to a plus defender at the 2-guard. Maybe Jackson ends up being better, but if Im drafting on potential, Johnson is the clear winner.

The archetype is this Kai Jones, Jaxson Hayes, Nic Claxton, maybe Precious Achiuwa long athlete who runs the floor, plays with energy, picks up rebounds, scores off dump-offs and put-backs. Maybe he'll develop his game. Achiuwa did somewhat. But if he's not really big enough to be a true 5, and not skilled enough to be a wing, then he likely ends up as a backup big. The real success story for this archetype is Anthony Davis, who further developed his shooting and ball skills and also gained like 30+ lbs. However, AD was a bit of a unique case in that he grew up as more of a guard who then had a big growth spurt. AD was also a game-changing athlete and defensive player who could also create a bit off the dribble.

If Newell could handle, change directions, have a bit of nuance, pass off a live dribble, there'd be more to believe in. Right now, you'd expect him to take one or two dribbles at most and try to score at the rim.

It's a fair discussion, but at this stage I'd give Tre a nod for his defense (or willingness to try) and probably his rim finishing. Jackson is probably going to go lottery when it's said and done. He's a volume scorer with decent efficiency who can shoot off the dribble.
 
Rutgers and Nebraska in a good one rn. Harper and Bailey showing out. 24 and 11 (and 3 blocks) for Bailey scoring from everywhere, and 21 for Harper who is absolutely incredible attacking the basketball and finishing.

This was Tre Johnson last night vs. Oklahoma. It looks like Texas is letting him handle and pass more than he did earlier in the season. The results are a bit mixed, but he makes a few good plays. I think Ace Bailey has a leg up on him at this point, but I still see Johnson as probably the 5th guy in this class at the moment. A perimeter with Tre, Brice and Lauri would knock down shots at a high rate and still have the ability to move the ball and score in different ways.
