College is all small sample size. I'm buying that Kon cut down his game a bit to fit what the team wanted/needed most. I do think there is a similarity there with Book with that regard. His HS career he did more with the ball. He has to figure out the off the dribble shooting but the other stuff is so good I would bet he improves a lot there.

I am just saying you can see it. Book is a better athlete but he's not like an amazing athlete. I don't think its crazy to see some shades of Booker there.

I just think there are several other players I'd comp him to before arriving at Booker, even if I was high on his upside.
 
I'm watching the Hardwood Hoops video on VJ right now and he is much better at creating than I had in my mind, but much worse at finishing at the rim than I had in my mind. He just doesn't have great touch at the rim, I'm not sure how fixable that is. Defensively he's not as good as the top lock down defensive guards in the NBA, but I think he's as good or better as a help defender. Tankathon is projecting him as an average 3pt shooter (36%) and that looks about right to me. His handle and passing are more than adequate for a shooting guard, just not for a point guard.

It's hard to watch these condensed videos of him and not come away as just blown away. He is much less impressive in full games, but when you condense all the stuff he does in one game to a couple of minutes he really pops like crazy.

I had a very similar reaction to him based on the Cashiggy videos. When you only look at the stuff that "happens", he looks incredible.

I'd also agree that he's disappointing as a finisher given his athleticism. He lacks some touch, but he's got no craftiness and doesn't have the greatest body control when in the air. He can only go above and through guys....which tbf he's pretty good at.
 
Speaking of VJ's finishing....what do we think about the fact that Kasparas was both better at getting to the hoop and finishing once he gets there? Does the alien athleticism outweigh the production? How does the athletic guy who can't finish well (or as well as you'd expect) translate compared to the unathletic guy who finished really well?

Please no.

I get taking as many swings at upside as you can, but at some point you need to make sure that you draft playable NBA players. I think there are plenty of upside swings in the draft that still have high enough floors that will be available at 5.

Essengue is a high level defensive wing with play finishing as an 18 y.o. If you're going to give Fears the benefit of doubts, you kind of have to do the same with Noa.

Kas isn't unathletic for the NCAA, but he'll be an average athlete in the NBA, so maybe what he did in college won't translate as well? Or maybe that will be offset by the NBA being even more rewarding to foul baiters like Kas.

He takes awkward angles because his handle is so terrible that he can't get good angles.

Is Noa a wing or a really thin big?

Fears just has to get more efficient at what he's already shown. Noa has to become a completely different player than what he has already shown. I have to use way more imagination for Noa, which makes me much less confident.

I don't want either at 5, but Noa would be the much bigger reach.
