Following Potential 2025 Draftees

The elite players are always going to matter most. It does not mater what kind they are. But each series has this subplot which is the battle of the role players.

DDV+NAW got whooped by Dort+Caruso+Wallace. That OKC trio has saved the Thunder this playoffs and provided extreme value. Even if you don’t think VJ is a star, this player type is extremely valuable. You need them and you need them to play well.

I just think VJ isn’t a primary ball handler. IMO his best role would be off ball pg / good positional size defensively like Derrick White. Even then White is a good passer, makes floaters, and is decent in pnr.

I’m ok with VJ but feel like he’s a piece not a home run (maybe that’s ok).

6'4 180 w/ a 6'5 wingspan. He's probably the definition of average sized PG.

And he’s a lights out cant miss 3 point shooter like Tre?

This one is really tough for me because I am high on Fears, but VJ's defensive upside makes this a complete draw for me a month or so out.

IDK, Im just wary of picking an average sized 2 guard for the reason that he is good at defense.

I think the main reason no one is really considering Fears is because we want to believe in Collier.

Halliburton, Brunson, Edwards, and SGA are all players who aren’t exactly how you would have imagined them in college. You do need to apply some imagination to these prospects. Players change, and unless you’re a Flagg/Harper level prospect (sometimes even if you are) it will require a lot of change and development to get there.

If the Jazz ultimately initiate from the wing, then it's okay to play someone like VJ at the 1. The Jazz need to decide how they envision their offense working. The same could be said about playing Keyonte at the 1.

His efficiency is good because the shots he takes are good.

Well, and he's an uber athlete. I think we are reading into combine stats way more than we should. It's 2025, we have the video and can watch how a guy plays athletically. Tre may test as well or better but between he and VJ, VJ "played" more athletic in games.

PS, Im softening on Tre a lot but thats for another post.
