Eye test will always be the most important then when projecting shooting imo. Especially when the FT% confirms the eye test.

Is that how you evaluate THT’s shooting?
THT's issue has never been shooting. It's shot selection. He improved this 3pt% in Utah and improved his selection in Chicago. So I would say I was right about THT being a better shooter than people thought.
Issue is Yang will also be available and he's the better pick, but if some reason Yang gets picked before him, I would take Beringer at 21.
That's where I have him as well. I just think his ability to apply rim pressure is underrated. He is extremely good at it, and it's very important to being an efficient player and playmaker for others. There are safer picks than Fears for sure, I think his top end potential is as real as anyone in this 3-8 range though.
As far as the Collier comparison, I think that's a great place to look. Looking at Collier makes me more optimistic about Fears. He was definitely underrated by GM's and should not have fallen to 29. In hindsight, his rim pressure was overlooked. That absolutely translated to the NBA and it's why he has exceeded expectations. But despite that, questions still remain about him because he can't shoot. This is applies to Fears as well and is why I call him a boom or bust prospect. If Collier could shoot, we'd be thinking he's a potential star 100%. But since he can't, I'm not even sure he'll be an NBA rotation player in 5 years. It's a huge swing skill which applies to both players.
And this is also why Fears is a much better prospect. TS% does describe efficiency, it does not predict 3 point shooting. These two had the same TS% but that is not the same thing as the same shooting projection. Fears FT% is a great indicator towards being a better shooter than his 3FG% indicates. It does not guarantee Fears will be a good shooter, but it is still a very important indicator nonetheless. At the very least, it makes him a much better shooting prospect than Collier (who was a terrible shooting prospect) and this is the most important swing skill.
On top of that, Fears is a full year younger than Collier at this stage. So when you compare anything you have to account. And in addition to being older, I think it's safe to say that Collier is more physically mature than Fears. Collier is built like a tank which is rare for a player this younger. Fears will never be built like Collier, but you would have to think that Fears has more room to grow in this area.

To be fair, Collier should have been 8-11 in his draft. If people are that hungry for him at 5, we need to find a way to short that stock for more value.
