You don’t think mid majors have NIL money? Most of these schools have Scrooge McDuck money, even if they’re not Harvard.
Three years ago BYU was a total afterthought as a program. NIL has been good to them.
LockedOnHornets is really good. Everyone has them locked into VJ, but they discussed the possibility of Tre today at #4.
They also went back in time to look at one of the Hornets past decisions. It was Monk vs Mitchell, which is kind of funny because I think it mirrors the VJ vs Tre debate.

Sure, some certainly do.
NIL is good for the players and for the programs with a lot of money. But I really hate how everyone is a hired mercenary on a 1 year contract. It's just weird. And now NCAA basketball programs are signing legit pro players from overseas. Everyone has infinite eligibility.

The disparity will make it difficult for most small programs to compete with paying for players unless, like you said, they have a rich sponsor that invests in the program. I think Cy's point is that on average a guy can make more being the 10th guy in a rich program than the #1 guy in a poor program.
I do think my original point is partially correct that good, but not top tier Freshman will still have a choice to go to programs where they can actually play, but it might not be so much of a mid-major as much as a P5 program that isn't a traditional basketball program.
The top basketball programs that are interested in winning NCAA tournament games will focus on 5 stars and transfer portals, which will leave the non traditional basketball schools the chance to recruit the next tier of freshman.
