I think the No Ceilings guys do solid work overall. I paid especially close attention during the Wemby draft year, and I remember Vecenie being very low on Keyonte while extremely high on Scoot, though to be fair, that was pretty much the consensus at the time, and Keyonte was a polarizing prospect. He was also very high on Whitmore.
It doesn’t really bother me that Vecenie was wrong on some of that cuz misses happen and that’s part of the job. What stands out to me more is that I don’t really hear him give Keyonte much credit now, even as I do hear him continue to express doubts. That may have been fair the past couple of seasons, but at this point I’d like to hear something more balanced or at least one clear positive. Meanwhile, he still seems quite optimistic about Scoot and Whitmore.
I get that credibility matters a lot in this space and that they’re protecting their process, so I understand why people are careful. I just think it’s reasonable to expect some acknowledgement when a player starts to outperform earlier evaluations.
No ceilings guys are fun because they’re just super bullish and envision how guys can be effective in the league. Just a different approach but I find it more enjoyable, granted fewer receipts.
