What's new

For those of you who don't like Jimmer...

If only he were a Ute, then Jazzfanz would love him for sure.

Absolutely WRONG. I may hate BYU, but that ends when it comes to rooting for the success of the Jazz. If we were drafting at the bottom of the first round and he was available, I'd love to have him. If he is available in the second round, I'd love to have him. We need an athletic 2 guard that can shoot and create his own shots. James Fredette can shoot (chuck), but he's not athletic, lacks lateral quickness, and cannot defend. Why do BYU homers think "yeah, that's exactly what the Jazz need!"?

I'll admit he has better numbers than I thought, but I'm not going as far as saying a guy who is averaging 13.5 and 4.5 over 34 mpg in his prime that plays for a team that's going to finish the season around 20 wins is a clear first round draft pick if we were to do it all again. That being said, he's the only one on that list that I dismissed that you could argue for and a fairly good shooter to boot, but don't overvalue him, Archie.

I haven't seen that much of Fredette, but he's more athletic and heady than I thought he'd be. He can make passes. He takes some stupid shots, and I'm not sure why. I'm not sure if he launches shots because he's too lazy to run the offense or thinks he can't take on the defense. I'd like to see him in a situation where he isn't being chased and keyed in on all the time by the defense. He has real potential, and by that I mean he could be something close to a Mark Price (after the injury), but he could also bust and end up being a Sarunas Jasevelik (sp?) kind of player. I think he'll be somewhere in between and be a decent pro, but I don't think he's top of the lottery.

If the Jazz waste this lotto pick on another unathletic white guy, especially one with the ridiculous nickname of "Jimmer", I'll be pissed!

I'm glad you weren't are gm. The year Stockton was drafted. I can also think of guys like Mullins Bird, some of the whitest most unathletic players also some of the best ever.

I'm not saying let's draft Jimmer, but I'm also not saying let's not draft Jimmer.

For a white guy that is only 6-1 6-2 and unathletic he really knows how to create his own shot.

Not many guys white black that ca wow a person like the Jimmer, and that's coming from a Utes fan. Stop being so closed minded.

Reasons why we should say no to Fredette:
1) The thing he brings to the table is shooting and he is not in the top 100 NCAA players in 3 pt shooting percentage.
2) Tweeners typically only do well if they are tremendously athletic. He is not.
3) Questionable decision making and at times terrible shot selection
4) Turns the ball over too much
5) Has not shown the ability to play against length
6) Never call a grown man Jimmer

He is a great college player. So was Adam Morrison

Jimmer IS in the top 100 in 3pt percentage.

Yes one my first posts is one where I correct someone for a small mistake! I feel I will fit in well here.

Well Done? Is this a joke? White American players have a very tough competing in the NBA. Especially guards.

Well, at least the Canadians, Italians, Germans, Russians, Argentines, Spaniards, Croatians and Turks get by. Throw in the occasional Greek.
It's true there aren't that many white 'American' guards having an impact in the league right now.

Tweener. Too small for a SG, not quick enough to defend the better PG's in the league. He'll be a career backup, which is not what you want from a lottery pick. I guess I'd be ok with getting Jimmer at #14 in a very weak draft. Jazz better get a starter with the NJ pick. There are some good SF's in the draft; let's hope Utah nabs one of them.

I can't believe people here are knocking his defense.

Who the hell plays defense in the NBA anyway? Furthermore, who the hell "locks down" opposing guards? Nearly every night has a SG or a PG going off for 30. Even the "greats" don't play a lack of defense. Nash, Duron, CP3, Rose, etc don't play any defense. If a PG is known for defense it's because he sucks at offense (ala Fisher). And even then, his defense still gives up a ton of points to opposing guards.

Take for example... The Utah Jazz. Earl Watson and Raja Bell, both known for their "defense" were just destroyed by the mighty Detroit Pistons tonight. Ben Gordan, Stuckey, and Andrew Bynum's little brother just went off. The night before, Collison had 16. The game before that? The Dallas trio destroyed us. The game before that, Ellis had 35. The game before that, Nash had 20 points and 14 assists. The game before that, Rose (enough said). Before that, Tyke and Bueno combined for 32. Game before that, Russel Westbrooke 33 points.

So everybody goes off. Whether you're a former MVP or some journeyman (like Bueno) you can go off for big numbers on any given night. With the no touch rules, PGs/SGs can score just about any time they want.

Give me somebody that can shoot the brains out of the basket and can make plays.

What's hilarious is how some of you believe that the NBA is that much better than the MWC this year. Seriously? Pretty sure that team that Jimmer has chewed up (twice) now, is loaded with NBA players. Yet, San Diego still can't find an answer for him.

I believe the Jazz have more pressing issues, like finding a LEGIT SG. But if realistically there aren't very attractive options out there, I say take Jimmer. He may leave some of you (mostly jealous and pissed off Ute fans) a bit surprised.

Lastly, I think he'd work perfect for the Jazz's offense. Yes, he could fit in well with a run and gun GS/Knick/Suns team. But him coming off screens or running the pick and roll would just devastate defenses.

Ah yes, white people can't play in the league.

What color is Memo and AK?

What color was that dude dunking on that Pacer black guy the other night? Pretty sure the crowd gave him a standing ovation.

Wasn't there a MVP guard a few years back for the Suns a kinda whitish color?

Was Stockton black?

Is Ronnie Price (who sucks) white?

You people are idiots if you're bringing race into his draft consideration.
