For those of you who don't like Jimmer...

You can argue Jimmer's merits until you're blue in the face, but the fact remains he isn't what the Jazz need right now.

I think it's pretty fair to say that he may to play point guard in the NBA due to his size alone, and I don't think the Jazz are in need of a point guard right now.
 
alot of people are commenting they dont want him because he goes by jimmer...

there are alot of strange names in the nba today.

I don't know if he's going to be a good NBA player or not, but knocking on his shooting by pointing out he's not in the top 100 in all of the nation is fairly ridiculous. I'd be willing to bet basically all of the guys on that list don't shoulder most the offensive load every night for their respective teams, and aren't hounded by double-teams night in and night out. It's obvious that Fredette's an amazing shooter and that's all there is to it. He's also shooting 3% points better than Stephen Curry did his last season at Davidson as well.
 
Jimmer lover here. I have to agree he really isn't what the Jazz need right now and taking him in the top 12 would make me nervous. The Jazz need a wing perimeter shooter (in the worst way) and Jimmer is a PG.

Sure he would be fine backing up Harris but again we are talking a lottery pick here.
 
Fredette looks like a special player. He's not a top-5 pick, but could realistically go anywhere after that. He's a nice complementary player for a team that's already got it's first and second option.

People knock his athleticism and defense, but in terms of athleticism/defense, I don't think he's really behind players like Nash, Curry, or even D.Will. Although, I think D.Will improved his athleticism when he got to the NBA.

There's no guarantee that whatever else is out there whenever we draft is going to be any better either. I'd by far rather have us draft Jimmer than Mo Almond, CJ Miles, or Ronnie Brewer because they're SGs and we need a SG. If Jimmer's the best player available, take him.

Take away Dwill's jumpshot and he drops a lot. In Feb, when he had a bum wrist, his points dropped from 21 to 17, turnovers blew up to an absurd 4 per game, and shooting percentage dropped to .400.

Even if he was more athletic, he still wouldn't stand a chance in guarding guys like Rose, Westbrook, Parker, or Nash. Due to the NBA's rules, perimeter players have a huge advantage. It's impossible to "lock down" a PG/SG anymore.

Jimmer will have no problem scoring in the NBA. His shot, size, and Jeff Hornacek like ability to make awkward drives/shots will carry him through a long NBA career. Think of it this way, Steve Blake, is a 7 year vet who has started most of his NBA career. Steve Blake folks. And you people want to say that Jimmer can't play?
 
Just curious, let's assume the Jazz make the playoffs and finish above the top-16 teams and that the Nets' pick is between 6-10. Freddette's draft stock is still fluctuating, but at this point would Jazz fans advocate spending the NJ pick on Jimmer?

It depends on what else is available. Jimmer shouldn't be the Jazz's #1... Or #2... Or probably top 5 targets. For the Jazz, he could be a valuable player coming off the bench. But what we truly need via free agency or the draft is a legit starting SG. However, if Jimmer's the BPA, take him based on what he brings to the table vs needs.

I'm thinking that this draft might suck compared to most. Kids aren't going to come out for the NBA draft if there's going to be a lockout. They're either going to Europe like Brandon Jennings did or stay in school. This year might be the perfect year for seniors like Jimmer to capitalize on the pending work stoppage.
 
I still think Jimmer is a risk, mostly due to his size.


Edit: Mind you, I'm saying as of right now, with the Jazz having the 6th pick. If we get that second pick at 14, then I'm actually on board with drafting Jimmer.

And if he's still available when we pick in the second round (which seems unlikely), I'd say he's absolutely worth the pick.
