The Road Island Diner

Little hole in the wall place in Oakley Utah. Yes, we have an Oakley.
It's at the "mouth" of Weber Canyon road. I stopped there a couple times today, first as a place to meet a tow truck to get me unstuck from 2 inches of mud under 4 inches of ice.
Then I came back once I was unstuck and had dinner. Damn. It was amazing. It's worth the drive out there alone. And the prices are very, very fair(two entree's, appetizer, and desert under $40 w/tip).
Spoke with Steve, who is the General Manager? Anyways, turns out he and his wife own Kumbayah Kitchen catering service and Bed n Breakfast(also in Oakley). It also turns out that the diner itself was at the 1939 worlds fair. Changed hands a couple of times over the years, and in 2007 it was transported to Utah and refitted to look like it did in 1939(half million dollar project).
On one side there's a sign that says "Under new management, re-open in February". So I assume some DB ran the place into the ground until last February. How you screw up with a place like that amazes me, but ok, whatevs.
Personally, I had the special. It turns out the special was Gluten Free fried chicken with Asparagus and mashed potatoes. It was some good fried chicken. Marie was the winner; she ordered the mac and cheese. You have two mixins you get, she chose bacon and garlic. Truly exceptional. The soup (veggie beef) was fantastic as well. Everything was home made.
All manner of deserts, including 3 or 4 home made ice creams.
If you're in the area, or going to Smith and Moorehouse, it's totally worth a stop.
