In my opinion Parsons deserves a great contract more than Hayward! But I agree that many teams are throwing away money.
Why? And this should be good, I'm sure...

Almost exactly the same money. Not quite a full max contract, but close enough. . .Sorry if posted already, but Parsons signs offer sheet with Dallas 3yrs/46M. Basically same money as Hayward with one less year.

These gm's are idiots, and just blindly throwing away all this money.
Why? And this should be good, I'm sure...
It's called a minimum salary floor. It has to get spent. It's not throwing away money. No matter how you split it up, some players are going to get more than they are worth.
The RFA designation has to change.
All it does is make everyone overpay for players.
How is that good?
How does that control costs?

Figured that was pretty much what he'd be getting once we saw the details for Gordon Hayward's contract offer. Makes me laugh that people still thought that we could pass on Gordon Hayward's offer and get Parsons for a lot less. It'll be interesting to see what Luol Deng and Trevor Ariza get on the open market once Lebron, Melo and Bosh all decide where they're going to play.
And you'd be wrong...For me he is just a better player! He already showed he can contribute offensively in the playoffs too!
If I have to make a bet concerning who between Hayward and Parsons will play an All-Star game first, I would throw all my money on Parsons.
The same thing happened in the NFL with their new CBA and TV contracts. Crazy money started being thrown around for awhile, but then it evened out when teams saw what the cost of doing business that way hampered them. If you're going to overspend, usually it should be your own young players that you believe will earn that contract. Once salaries go up, hopefully you get a good deal out of it.Then when it comes to a new CBA the owners bitch about not making enough money. Well quit over paying for role players!!!!! It is crazy stuff when role players are making $15 million.

Parsons has never had to do what Hayward had to last year... Ball handler, Primary playmaker, main focus on the team on offense, sharpshooter. Put Parsons on last years team, and Hayward on the Rocks, Hayward probably shoots a lot better, and adds a secondary playmaker and ball handler to Harden, taking a ton of pressure off Harden.
With Parsons on the jazz, take away ball handling, slashing, playmaking. Parsons is nowhere near the skilled player or versatile player Hayward is making it a lot easier to defend Parsons.
There is no what Parsons is in Hayward's level, and no way Parsons ever makes an Allstar game over Hayward. QS's system will only make Hayward better.
You would be a Hayward homer. Who is better is certainly subjective but Hayward is not a clear winner and his chance of making an All-star game will only be better if he goes to the Eastern conference. Personally, I don't think either player will make an All-star game unless their team goes to the Finals.
Parsons is a little bit bigger than Hayward and he is a SF. Parsons has been more consistent since he has been in the league. He is a better 2pt and 3pt shooter. Hayward is a better FT shooter. Their stats are extremely similar: Parsons 16.6 pts, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.2 steals
Hayward's 16.2 pts., 5.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.0 steals. They play about the same minutes so to say hayward play making is far better isn't accurate. You can rationalize away but the glaring difference is Parsons shooting. 2pt % .472 to .413 and 3pt % .370 to .304 and FT - Hayward is the better FT shooter .813 to .742. I think you are overstating Hayward's ability to slash and handle the ball but nevertheless the stats are pretty similar. I would take Parsons because his shooting is clearly a lot better than Haywards. FYI last year wasn't Parsons best season either. Hayward has been in the league one more year and was the main focus of the offense while Parsons had to defer to several players. Now you can say this benefited Parsons because he played with more talent but you can also say Hayward had more opportunities.
I did. You are insinuating that Hayward would be better on the Rockets and I am insinuating that Hayward should have put up better numbers on a crappy team. I certainly think Parsons could do better on the Jazz than Hayward on the Rockets because I don't think Hayward would be getting as many opportunities. I certainly don't think Hayward would go from .403 to .472 shooting just because he moved to the Rockets.Consider the teams they play for.

With all the money being thrown around at small forwards it looks like Andre Kiriklinko might have made a mistake opting in to his last year with the nets for 3.3 million.
There is money being thrown around to good SF's. Andrei would get a small exception, at best.Seems like every decision AK47 has made since he left the Jazz has been a mistake. Russia over the NBA. Signing with Minnesota. Opting out to take less with New Jersey. Opting in for his second year there.
