Free Agent Rumors Thread

Fair point. I suppose it was just their big, lanky bodies and the way they move. That said, my point still stands on having a logjam at the 4/5. Unless of course Ayon is cool with some DNP's which he may be, I don't know.

Ayon isn't a big lanky body. The only thing the have in common is that they are tall, thats it.

Ayon is going to have a head time even making a team, of course he's going to be ok with DNPs.

Cleveland is looking to dump Jack to free up money for a pitch to Lebron. I think Philly will take on both Jack and Lin now that Pierre Jackson might be done for most of the season (ruptured achilles). Philly is cornering the market on injured players.

When LBJ goes back to Miami, I expect Cavs to call Utah's bluff by signing Hayward to a MAX deal, thinking Utah probably won't match. Cleveland really wants Hayward, trying to get Utah to do a sign and trade. We'll take Wiggins, Jack and other salary; they can have LBJ and Gordon (just wishful thinking!).

I'm about ready to call BS on CLE's interest in Hayward. I think they're just trying to stir the waters and play him off a couple others (LeBron,who-the-hell-knows-who-else) they're actually targeting. Hayward makes some sense, but not enough for CLE to max him out.

Is Tomic coming over? What's the word on that? If not, I sort of like Cy's call on Ayon. My problem with that though is he reminds me of Gobert and I want Gobert getting burn, preferably 20 minutes a night, and I think the minutes would get tricky for our bigs then.

Favors (32), Kanter (28), Gobert (20), Novak (16) is already 96 minutes so I'm just not sure where Ayon would fit in but I do like him.

Right now, if we do match on Hayward, I'm curious where we, as members, then see our biggest holes?

I've resigned myself to becoming a broken-record...

We need perimeter defenders. I still want Marcus Smart: S&T Hayward, add Burke, get Smart. Then, sign Bazemore. Then, sign Aminu.

Exum/Smart/Neto
Smart/Burks/Bazemore
Hood/Bazemore/Aminu
Kanter/Aminu/Evans/Novak
Favors/Gobert

A three-guard rotation of Exum, Smart, and Burks could beat the hell outta people.

Heat prez Pat Riley and coach Erik Spoelstra flew to NC to meet with Jazz free agent forward Marvin Williams yesterday, a source told Yahoo.

Marvin Williams would be a decent pickup for their depth. I can see that being a good fit for both sides. It'll be interesting to see what his next contract looks like. I think he's better coming off the bench for his next team.

I don't disagree but I am very hopeful that Quin will be very good emphasizing strong team defense.

Having said that, I think we all agree the three-ball is huge nowadays too. 36% was the league average last year. I think it would be interesting to look up which players shot at or above 36% last year who are considered above average defenders. Seems like something up your alley tbh.

We're one on this point.

(I'm not sure Exum, Smart, and Burks would work very well, however. I like actual point guards, and the Jazz would have three combo guards that probably wouldn't harmoniously share their minutes/shots/spots in the rotation. Although I have had the identical idea of Burke + Hayward S/T for Smart.)

I don't see any reason why we can't call Exum a full-on PG. I also don't see any reason why we can't call Burks a full-on SG. I don't see any reason why we can't call Smart a pitbull.

Why do I keep hearing people post about Aminu. The guy sucks. He can barely dribble and he cannot shoot. No post moves. No play making ability. He is long and can rebound well for the SF position. THAT IS IT. He is pathetic at the 3 and the 4. If he could shoot. He could be effective at the 3 or the 4. But he hasn't improved ANYTHING in his game since coming to the league. Give up on the dude. He sucks.

We will not be trading for Smart. Its not going to happen. Marcus Smart is similar to Lance Stephenson. They both don't fit the team oriented basketball we need. They are loose cannons who put their emotions and selfish desires to be THE GUY..... ahead of the team.
Sad part is both of these players have so much talent. But they will always stay mediocre because of the own lack of self discipline.
Unless Snyder is the next Zen Master. We won't be dealing with these types of players.
