It's just tough. These guys are fun to watch when they are on but 5 years of tanking and we want to to start winning now? We tanked all of these years to be a potential play in team? I understand that there's always free agency to add pieces but that's never a given. I'm guessing the FO has some sort of plan but I'm not really seeing it.
That's tanking for you.

If you don't get extremely lucky, you can't just stop.

The whole "just this one more year" crowd will say exactly the same a year from now, when the Jazz haven't been extremely lucky.

The tanker's plan is always simply to get lucky.

Sure, but the point is to put yourself in a position where you are more likely to hit - or get lucky if you prefer that turn - than if you hover around .500. There will always be lots of luck involved in sports, but that does not mean that you shouldn`t position yourself smartly.

Yes. And the Jazz haven't gotten lucky. Whatever their lottery position, they're very unlikely to get lucky.

Just so we're clear: "Should position themselves smartly" means tanking as long as it takes to get lucky. Three years, five years, eight years - whatever it is.

If someone wants the Jazz to "position themselves smartly" this year, why would that suddenly change unless they get really lucky?

Because you never really now what will happen. None of us predicted that Keyonte 30 games into this season would look like a top 5 pick from his draft class. Noone could know that Kawhi Leonard would gift OKC an all time great player through his stupid actions, and most people did not think that Scoot Henderson would be close to a bust this far into his NBA career.

If Keyonte continues to develop at this rate, we the foundations of a good team and the tank is definitely over after this year. What happens after this I don`t know, but I do know that it will take a lot of luck to get back into contention, as it has done for every other team in the league.

I think 6th worst is best case scenario.
Need all the teams ahead of us to stay there and need the Mavs, clippers, and hornets to pass us.

Dear NBA.

Please help us out in the lottery you can’t afford to let OKC get too good. It will cause nba fans to lose interest especially in LA where you make all your money so please cheat for us the way you did the Mavericks last year. Let us keep our pic.

Sincerely, a very confused Utah Jazz fan.

P.S. I don’t need the first pic. I’ll take the second pic. I’m not greedy or anything.

Top 3 would be great - if we’re not being greedy.

I’m too competitive to ever root for losses so during the games I root for wins but afterwards if we lose I’m fine with it because it’s better for the future it’s like the best of all the worlds

We're having the same conversation today that we were having in 2023 when that upcoming draft had Wembanyama, the Thompson twins and Brandon Miller. The Jazz then wanted Anthony Black or Bilal Coulibaly as a consolation prize, and even that didn't happen.

The Jazz need to keep their pick and get into the top 4 to complete this rebuild. Guys like Tounde, Avadalas, Lopez and Carr can help, but they won't get us where we want to go. The Jazz are still looking for their main cog. The way the Jazz push and move the ball works during the regular season, but in the playoffs you've got to have that unstoppable self-creator.

The difference between this year and 2023 is that in 2023 our winning was largely driven by veterans who had no future on our team where as this year has been much more of a youth movement/players with a future here excluding Nurk, Love, and Svi but even Svi might be here next time we make the playoffs

That's true. The Jazz took half a season to move off of Conley. I think that was the main issue.
