Game #5: Hornets at Jazz, January 2nd 2012, 7:00 PM MST

Good clamp-down D at the end. Finally they stopped Jack

Nice game from Howard.

Burks was sure rewarded for his good 2nd quarter. Bell gets one rebound. That's his stats for the whole game. At least he only got 13 minutes....as his minutes keep going down...down...down...down

now i might be wrong but raja got 19 minutes

One thing I truly hate about the NBA... You just can't "cut" somebody without paying for it... Literally...

You can't trade Raja (because he isn't worth a bag of chips), and you can't take away his minutes because then he might turn into a cancer...

Stuck between a rock and a hard place... Maybe we can just "give him" to somebody??

Usually, in circumstances like these, you trade them for a 2nd round pick to a team who needs some veteran presence in the locker room. Of course, keep in mind, that's what I see his role being this year for us. Just someone who helps explain things to guys in practice and keeps the younger guys levelheaded.

What's that thing that scissors do?

I thought he made some plays tonight. I'm not a Cj supporter but I'll give credit when it's due.

CJ has talent but he makes silly mistakes when the game is on the line. He gets too impatient and tries to force things (silly fouls, not pump faking on that break away layup/missed dunk, tries difficult shots, passes in midair, etc.)

Sheesh, making Jarret Jack look like an all star

Jack scored almost all of his points by screen and rolling with whomever Jefferson was guarding. In the 3rd and 4th they tried the same thing with Favors and he wasn't getting good shots.

I was impressed with Howard energy, defense and toughness. CJ made several dumb plays but a couple of important ones in crunch time. I think it is time to put Bell out to pasture. Start Hayward and Howard together. Use CJ and Burks off the bench. Harris is being more aggressive-that is a very good sign.

I thought today was a good example of why Raja starts. He didn't make any mistakes on either side of the floor, played hard, defended well, and didn't hurt the team. I would like to see his minutes reduced to strictly the first 5 minutes of the 1st and 3rd, but I see his importance to the team at this current time.

Howard is playing great, but I think his role as a bench scorer is perfect for him. He is hyper aggressive and wants to take shots and drive it to the rim.

Overall I thought Miles had a good game if you take away those two classic CJ moments at the end of the 2nd and 3rd quarter. He scored at key times and had some nice rebounds. Him and Kanter combined for a crucial defensive sequence of ball denial when the Hornets tried to put them in a two man game.

The Burks situation today was a little weird. I thought he played OK. Someone mentioned that he was sucking air after 5 minutes of play, but I couldn't tell on my LD (low definition) stream. I like how he tries to play pressure defense, but he got absolutely buried on some screens.

The second unit really gave the team a boost in the 1st/2nd. A lot of energy. Raja and Hayward killed the momentum with their passive play to open the 3rd.

Millsap was also pretty sluggish until the end there. Al single-handedly kept the Jazz in the game for a while. Josh Howard and Burks did a good job of attacking. Earl was relentless on D.

It's nice to see that the Jazz can win some games on talent, as it seems to me fewer players showed up for the Jazz than showed up for the Hornets.

Offense stagnates when Bell is in. He doesn't make noticeable mistakes offensively because he can't do anything with the ball other than shoot when he gets it, and he's not a chucker, so he makes the simple pass out. He's much better suited in a drive and kick offense than a flex offense.
