Nah I'm pretty sure I read that HBO was fine giving them 10 episodes per season, but for various production reasons the show runners opted for fewer episodes of greater length.

Oh they've had time, they are just incredibly ****ing stupid.

In the post episode commentary they said Dany had forgotten about the iron fleet, but they hadn't forgotten about her. She had literally had a conversation about Euron and his ships during her last scene!

Unrealistic expectations

Say what you want about the plot and the script, but the acting is on point. It's a really interesting group of characters. Cersei is as good an evil bitch queen as any could be cast.
