GAME THREAD: 3/26/14 - Grizzlies @ Jazz, 8:30 local, ESPN

The Grizzlies played like dirt most of the game, which is the only reason it was close. Kanter did fairly well on Gasol (and I think he also guarded Randolph) for most of the game. When the Grizzlies took the game seriously, they made us look bad.

Maybe, just maybe, the Jazz had something to do with that?

So basically your main arguement is that the Grizzlies can turn it up a notch when they need to, like the playoff team they are, and Utah hasn't learned that yet?

You don't say.

Maybe that was because Favors and Kanter imposed their will on Gasol and Randolph in the first quarter defensively. They played physical, the refs let it go, and Memphis wasn't used to it.

You sound like you only watched the last quarter and a half, and you watched it sporadically at that.

I thought Favors was a beast. Had a sweet block of Randolph late even with 5 fouls that turned away a layup. Whenever we play someone with good bigs he really shows up - just gotta bring it all the time.

Our team really has to learn how to play down the stretch. We made a lot of mistakes in the 4th that are typical of young teams.

Still say Utah ends up #5 and wins the 2nd pick in the lottery.

Would prefer #4 going into the lottery though.

It was nice to see the Jazz were trying to up the pace. I hope they keep that up.

How much I hate this season:

Not once did I cheer for nice score, nor moan over bad play. I just didn't care enough to get emotionally involved. Baking cookies was more entertaining.

Finally, something worth talking about. What kind of cookies?

Also, Ty should get Coach of the Year consideration just based on those last 3 minutes alone. Masterfully done.

You mean, a loss where the other team coasts for 2 1/2 quarters, turns up the intensity, grinds us down, jams our set offense completely, and imposes their will? I saw a Grizzlies team that ignored us like a grown dog ignores a puppy tugging at its ear, until it grows tired of the sport, growls, and sends that pup whimpering away. That's going to turn them into better players?

We played decent defense for most of the game, except for Burke's inability to get around screens. Outside of that, I didn't see anything particularly good happening.

You are aware that Memphis has the best record since the break and one of the top defenses. So yes they put the hammer down at the end of the game but the Jazz were right there with them. I can't see why you are being so critical. The young guys are going to take their bumps and bruises but they have to learn these lessons while they play. They are doing it. OKC were horrible for 2-3 years before they got good. Next year the Jazz will be winning games like this.
