What's new

Game Thread Preseason Utah Jazz vs LA Clippers 10-10-16

Biggest takeaway: I'm glad Quin gets our guys ready to compete for these games, unlike Doc unfortunately.

Lots to be happy with.

Exum: showing some nice flashes on D. Can hit the 3. Exum 3D
Bolomboy: what a nice project to have. Psychical specimen, can rebound, and score around the basket like Sap his rookie year?
Lyles: Cool, calm, and collected. He is an NBA player. Nice put back jam in the 2nd half.
Hood: That wet J was back. He can lead if Hayward is out.
Joe Johnson: Finally we see the effective ISO JOE we've been waiting for. He will hit some game winners for us this year.
Joe Ingles: Looking more like Manu these days than end of the bench trash.
Gobert: Finally showing something around the rim offensively. Man he moves so awkwardly, but he's starting to develop.

I was thinking the same thing. With Bolomboy looking promising and CJ showing solid defense and tenaciousness on the boards, the Jazz might choose him over Withey, who has looked very mediocre so far.
Self proclaimed Trey Burke hates here. Instead of saying goodbye to CJ or Withey, why not Mack?

Mack had some flashes at the end of the game but those were heavily outweighed by inefficient offense, poor decisions and horrible turnovers. I'd much rather see Neto instead of Mack.

(This was not directed personally at you EM, but I just had to get those thoughts out)

Yes, Mack is my new "love to hate" guy on the team. I thought it was a HUGE mistake when the FO guaranteed his contract.

Agreed - Mack can't run an offense and doesn't take care of the ball.

He's Milt Palacio with somewhat better dental work.

Let's not fall in love with Chris Johnson all over again - he's a 3 who can't hit wide open shots. He's playing for his NBA life right now so yeah he's out there making things happen; but The Jazz need a back-up big way more than they need CJ.

Jazz will find a way to keep Bolomboy - he's definitely intriguing enough to stash in the D-League for a while and let him develop his game.

Hard for me to say this but boy was the ball moving much better with Diaw at the 4 in the starting line up....

Diaw looks really engaged out there - almost like a player-coach. I was afraid we were going to see the "Charlotte Hornets" version of Boris where he looked disinterested a lot of the time.

I think Popovich created the correct template for utilizing Diaw - he's an 19-23 mpg who should be on the floor with either Favors or Gobert at all times. He's going to create a ton of opportunities for them.

I think you'll see him finishing a lot of games this year too.

Does anybody think Hayward will have a say in whether or not Mack is traded? Keeping Mack might have a slight influence on Hayward staying.

So Exum gets a free pass for the lucky strip? Had he whiffed you'd be wanting his head on a pike.

Let's not forget that this guy is SCARED (edit)less to take it to the hole and score, yet he gets to the paint almost on 90% of his drives!

The strip was a little lucky... the lateral movement was great.

Exum is a conundrum... gets where he wants to but can't finish. I don't know how to solve that... reps are good but it also seems like one of those things that should come fairly naturally. Either way I still like his potential still. Will reserve judgement until he's played 40 games this year.
