What's new

Game Thread: Utah Jazz Vs. Phoenix Suns April 4th @ 7:00 PM

Al got murdered on switches tonight. Especially that second to last jumper Nash hit. Favors would have blocked or denied it.

More than anything - that turnaround, desperation three-pointer from near mid-court by Frye was what cost us the game. Talk about a game-changing play. A lucky one.

The moment the pass went to Cj I new we were screwed. Forget the fact that Miles wasn't in a position to get off a good shot. Even if no one was around him and he had time to set his feet and square up, he still would've missed. Cj is just missing something upstairs that holds him back.

One last thing..... Did someone forget to tell the refs the game was in Utah. Phoenix seemed to get away with a lot tonight, and the benefit of a lot of no calls. I'm not blaming this game on the refs, if the jazz don't go through the motions the first 3 in a half quarters we win regardless of the refs.

And if the Jazz finished 0-66 with Corbin running a lineup of Carol-Watson-Tinsley-Harris-CJ for 48 minutes every night you'd still find a way to defend him.

We're on different ends of the spectrum, but I prefer the reality side.

If you can come up with a sanity driven argument about how something other than the Bench and the Refs had a greater negative effect on the game I'd love to hear it. What did you want Ty to do? Those bench guys flat out didn't get it done. Those are the guys you want on the court more. That's why Ty's a retard right?

The reality is this team has become thin at the wrong time. Kanter is just not a reliable option. I like him but he's just not going to get to where he will for a year or so. Burks likewise, although he's farther along. The ONLY reliable wing Utah has right now is Gordon and that's why he played so much. Really CJ had a great game as far as he goes. You want to get down on him taking that late shot, ok, but the Suns played great D on that inbound. Maybe you should be mad at the other 3 guys for failing to get open.

Utah wins this game if Howard plays, if Harris plays, or if the refs call the game fairly.

Well, on a positive note, those that wanted both picks, tonight couldn't have been better.
Count me among those who want a pick. Jazz ceiling is no higher than a #7 seed. So Utha would get clobbered by either SA or OKC. No thanks...we need a wing in this draft to replace Chucker, or a PG if someone like Lillard impresses.

Man, what a downer. I typically want to defend corbin but his subs were pretty questionable in this game (especially in the 1st half, if they are hitting shots, bench them?) Plus the entire lack of defense in the paint and the horrid game by jefferson. It'll probably look like we lost this game because of the bench, however, my belief is that we just played jefferson way too much when he was not contributing. Sure our bench was for the most part terrible, but I think a lot of that is circumstantial. In the second half, the jazz kept making runs into the paint aka burks, all the while getting knocked around to the floor. Meanwhile, players like LOPEZ FFS were getting foul shots off simple touch fouls. BTW how does jefferson end up guarding nash? Really? I hate the blame officiating, however I saw numerous calls in a row in the second half that simply took the jazz out of their plays and nothing starting clicking again until late in the 4th. Great win for the suns I suppose, but this game was so winnable... I think Al needs a game or two rest just to get back to himself, I'm worried that 4 OT curse is haunting him

I'm not going to blame injuries in a season where the Jazz have been one of the healthiest teams.
I'm not going to blame the refs when that sort of thing tends to even itself out over the course of a season.

In other words, I'm not going to blame things outside the Jazz's control, especially when they would've won anyways had they not made a ton of dumb mistakes.

If the Jazz get into the playoffs then I want the Lakers. The Jazz match up the best with them. I know that the Lakers have beat us in the past, and they could very well beat us this year, but they give the Jazz the best chance of advancing.

Anything else and I want to see a tank job.

I've been biting my tongue, but dude has sleep-walked through the last two games, which is unacceptable from your highest paid player during a playoff push. Plus, He had 22 more minutes than Favors, who brought it strong tonight.

Yes

Better than sitting around blaming refs. I mean seriously?

Burks and Kanter were practically unplayable. Tinsley wasn't as good tonight as he has been. Favors was good but he wasn't the best option against their centers. He was at his best playing with somebody else at the 5. I would agree that defense/offense substitutions could help late in close games as far as Favors goes.

Jefferson commonly struggles against huge athletic guys like Gortat. He had a poor defensive game. The Suns also did a really good job denying the entry pass to him in the 4th.

Nash's last two shots were MVP type clutch plays. A really tough fadeaway floating sideways over Sap and another tough shot off a bent front knee through the double. Then they played fantastic D denying Gordon and Sap the ball on the inbound. Game.

If Tinsley plays as well as he had been the Bench would have scored more maybe. If Burks hadn't taken crazy pills before the game we win possibly. If Kanter had played in college probably he'd have been a lot better tonight. If CJ hadn't been carrying the team in stretches Utah wouldn't have even been in the game late at all.

A lot of ifs that have nothing to do with refs or injuries, but the fact is this should be a learning experience. The only guys on this team that really know how to win are Sap and Harris. Everybody else is still figuring it out. This team is missing Howard bad.
