General NBA Craziness and How it Applies to Utah

Cap will be $99 instead of projected $101 or $102. Because the playoffs sucked.

I think you're missing some important things here. Cap space is valuable for what potential it brings. It's a means and not an ends. You save your cap space so you can fill it with value. Something like the 4th pick is something you clear cap space for, not deal away to have cap space. This is backwards.

It would have been like us offloading the #5 a couple years ago to get rid of Burks.

If Clippers want Beverley, Lou Williams and Decker... Why would Houston want Jordan with Capella?

Because Jordan is better than Capella. Capella has value and could fetch a decent player. Lastly standing pat is not what NBA fans want to see with GSW out there. They want to beliEve that it will be more competitive next year.Even if it is willful ignorance.

God damn if you're putting together trades that end up getting you Porzingis for freaking Derrick Favors and Boris Diaw then just stop.

Porty will owe an additional 5-6 M in luxury tax next year because of lower cap. Think they will owe like 30 M in total for a fringe playoff team.

Damn. Sucks for them.

Good thing Paul Allen is an insanely wealthy person.

True... but he still probably hates waste.

I think Boston will have to trade something to have enough space for Gordon. Could be costly if they move crowder or smart and then lose out on hayward

With latest cap adjustment, C's would now have to trade Rozier, D. Jackson, and not bring in Zizic or Yabusele to get to max $ for GH or BG

Im sure he isnt stoked. But the dude can probably take a **** and make 5 million dollars in the time it takes him to wipe his ***.

OK here's me combining rumors and piecing together a Jazz team:

1. According to rumors Jazz are interested in Patrick Beverley
2. According to rumors ATL is looking for S&T deal for Paul Millsap

Trade 1:

UTA gets Patrick Beverley
HOU gets worse of OKC/UTA 2018 1st round pick(because they want to save capspace this yer)

Trade 2:
UTA gets Paul Millsap(S&T)
ATL gets Derrick Favors + Alec Burks

We give up on bringing Hill back, but we shore up the PF position. For the record I hate this deal(because I don't envy the team that will give Millsap his next contract) but I can absolutely see the Jazz doing something like this.

Resulting team:

PG: Patrick Beverley, Dante Exum, Raul Neto
SG: Rodney Hood, Joe Ingles, draft pick
SF: Gordon Hayward, Joe Jesus, draft pick
PF: Paul Millsap, Trey Lyles, draft pick
C: Rudy Gobert, draft pick, Joel Bolomboy

You can substitute some of the draft picks with a MLE or BAE level FA.

Thoughts? Do you think this is enough to get Hayward to stay?

Seems to me like this is more of a lateral move rather than an upward move... Hill is still a better player than Beverley overall IMO.

Also Millsap declining and Favors hitting his prime... that's a toss up.

For the record, I don't like this situation at all. I much prefer our current roster with Hill and healthy Favors.

The thing I'm realizing is just how crippling the fear of losing Hayward is. I'm thinking about all sorts of stupid moves that would make Hayward want to stay more but will screw us long-term. If Hayward wanted to sign almost... regardless of what we do, I kind of like our pieces. It's when I try to bring in win-now pieces that I start cringing when faced with the possibilities.

I don't think we need to panic to make Hayward stays. He's smart enough to see that if we're desperate and running around like headless chicken he just won't have a bar of it and bolt.

We need to be methodical and measured like the Spurs, and if he signs, great. But if he doesn't, we carry on with the guys who want to stay and play for us. Also we're starting to become a FA destination now as guys are starting to see the value we have in a stable FO with Lindsey and a top 10 coach in Quin.

It's like when you're trying to win a girl's heart - if you act desperate they can sense it a mile away. You need to play it cool and you'll get the rewards.

You can't really bring this up and not mention Rudy. IF Utah is more of an FA draw than they used to be, it has more to do with winning, and Rudy was the key to changing that in Utah.

I was sick about the idea of Hillward leaving at first, but now I almost wouldn't mind seeing how the team grows in a different direction. I'm actually fine with however things work out from here, good or bad. Maybe that's because I'm a huge believer in Rudy as the key to our success. Then again, maybe I'm just naïve.
