General NBA Craziness and How it Applies to Utah

If SA dropped LMA for basically nothing and green they could add Griffin and CP3. Add in Danny grean and get tony parker to retire or do that split his contract into little parts.

I'm indifferent on LMA... he's a cautionary tale for Hayward... had that **** happened in Boston he'd get killed.

If the price is right he is good. I won't give up much though. I think he's appropriately paid now, but could struggle in the future.

Yeah, they were looking for a top 10 pick, which I doubt they get, so it would probably cost us 2 late firsts, which I think is steep considering his contract.

IDK if I'd want to pay that if I knew Hayward was coming back, but I probably would if I knew he was gone.

Edit: Screw that. Not giving 2 firsts for a player that could bolt in a year.

Actually only two years left and one is a players option... if the price is right I'm in.

Yeah, they aren't getting a top 10 pick, and I couldn't even see giving them 2 late firsts if he has the PO after a year.

What's the right price though? They are nuts asking for a top 10 pick.

The more I think about, the cap space they are getting is really valuable to them. I think the 30 is the highest I'd pay.

It would be something like Favs and space, plus #24, Lyles for LMA. Favs goes to a 3rd team with enough space or expirings and they give a minor asset.

I wouldn't blow my wad for LMA but it would be a solid addition.

It is very possible that San Antonio trades us Aldridge then goes and signs Hayward and Hill in free agency. I just don't buy the Aldridge hype. He's always been a good player on an underachieving team. If he was that good and on a fair contract, there is no way Pop lets him go.

I don't think the Spurs are going to be able to dump Aldridge's salary AND get a top 10 pick. In fact, I'm skeptical that they find a top 10 pick at all. Since it sounds like salary is there most significant barrier in pursuing Chris Paul or whoever, I think what makes most sense for them is first seeing who can absorb Aldridge's salary out right, and then see who ponies up the most significant assets after that.

So the question for Utah is first, does Diaw and the remaining cap space we have this year absorb Aldridge's salary in effect, and what assets will the Spurs require that the jazz have to make the deal get done?

I see a legit scenario here. I don't love LMA, but if he'll shoot 3s and pass the ball then I am very interested.

What I like about LMA over Love is that we can probably get him without surrendering Hood. I still believe in Rod. I expect him to be in the MIP discussion. And he's the only thing like an insurance policy we have for Hay leaving.

We could do Diaw and a pick. That would give them cap space. No way am I giving the 24 and Favors for LMA to bolt after a year. Cap space is what they really want.

Diaw and the 30, otherwise let someone else overpay for one year of LMA.

Clippers luxury tax if they re-sign everybody is like $120M per Bobby Marks. That's a lot of dough.

Back to the actual topics at hand.

IF our willingness to spend affecting Hayward was ever on display, it would be in the next 12 hours. If we exit the draft without using our available $13 million in cap space, it is a clear sign that we're unwilling to spend. Our $13 million in space right now is one of the biggest assets in the entire NBA. With the cap shrinking below expectations, salary dumps are bigger than ever. So if we don't absorb a salary or make a lopsided deal since we can take on more salary, we are wasting an asset.

Today will tell. If I'm Hayward, I'm paying very, very close attention to how Utah uses this asset today.

The Jazz waste an asset?!?

That's all we do. Stockpile assets then let them expire. Gots to make those dollas.

Folks: Larry Miller was not an educated man nor an overly bright man. He surrounded himself with smart people and was very successful.

He didn't emphasize education with his kids. Now you have a bunch of less smart kids, with no education, a privileged upbringing and used to spending a lot of money (see the 100 million they threw out the window on a racetrack).

The Millers have a high net worth but they aren't flush with cash.

The more I hear, the more I think last year was a dream year for Utah. Low payroll, second round of the playoffs.

Not going read through this diarrhea of a thread. But no matter what everyone is saying...

Jazz should ALL IN on Porzingis. He just fits too well with Rudy.
