GLeague Prospects

This guy looks really interesting. By drafting him into the G-League, do the Jazz retain the right to sign him?

No. Regardless, I think that there’s an opportunity here to

A.) brand the G-League as a new one-and-done destination.

B.) prove that Utah is a place where players of all ages get major development.

C.) make it so that a top prospect is integrated into your system and (hopefully) has a genuine interest in being a part of your NBA team down the road.

D.) spend a whole year gathering exclusive information on a top rookie prospect so you know if it’s worth making a major trade up to get him in the draft - if the opportunity presents itself.

Seems to have good head on his shoulders and prioritizes the right things. I think the Stars would be a great place for him.
The more I read about him, the more he reminds me of Donovan Mitchell coming up through the ranks. He’s articulate, intelligent, a hard worker and physically gifted. I’m genuinely excited to see how his whole situation unfolds over the next year leading up to the 2019 draft.

Spent some time thinking about this yesterday after the news broke that the Stars get the 1st pick in the G League Draft and I started reading up about Bazley. There’s actually a few players in the G League that I’d like the Jazz to look at closely, even if they just end up playing for the Stars.

A.) Obviously, I’m 100% onboard with the Stars using the 1st pick on Darius Bazley and spending a year working with him on his development. I’d make sure to give him the kind of support the Jazz gave to Donovan Mitchell this year, and try to change the image/value of the G League.

B.) Tony Bradley probably still gets a bunch of playing time with the Stars. . . but I’d also try to reward him with more NBA minutes if I’m able to. Nigel Williams-Goss might get a look, but I think it’s more likely that he plays another year in Europe before coming back.

C.) Naz Mitrou-Long, David Stockton, Erik McCree and Georges Niang all got quality minutes with the Stars/Jazz as 10 day players or two-way guys. I’d like to see them all back for Summer League and some of them for training camp. Niang I keep on a two-way contract, while the others probably get a training camp invite and maybe some extra cash.

D.) Two other guys from other G League teams that I want the Jazz to bring over to summer league and training camp are C: Landry Nnoko and PF: Christian Wood. Nnoko was the G League Defensive Player of the Year for the Pistons affilate - he’s the guy I’d like to see them use their 2nd two way contract on. Wood is still young and has great upside. He got a ton of minutes and had solid numbers with the 76ers affiliate. I’d give him a partially guaranteed contract so that the Stars get to keep his rights if no other teams pick him up.

Start there, add the new rookie(s) into the mix and then add the most athletic players you can to fill out your bench. Should make the Stars a fun team to watch and root for. The more opportunities for exposure you provide players, the more likely they’ll want to come to Utah and be a part of the system.

There was a feel good GLeague story yesterday in Andre Ingram a 32 year old rookie who made his Association debut with the Lakers. He had 18 points vs. the Rockets. He spent some time with the Utah Flash in the day and is basically a GLeaue lifer.

I’m glad the Lakers did that. More teams should. More and more, I see them doing quality things under Magic Johnson’s leadership and I think they’ll be a solid, tough team in the very near future.

@sonofthebigdog - what are your thoughts on the Stars/Jazz picking Bazley and developing him for a season?

Any thoughts on Landry Nnoko?

Obviously, those are the two guys I’d like the Stars to add for next year.

Oh **** they got the 1st pick... It's an absolute no-brainer in my mind. They MUST draft Darius Bazely #1... There is no other viable options...

Anyone who things Bazely's move to the G-league (to make 26 grand at 17 years old) is a short-sighted fool.
