GM #9: 11/12/2014 - Utah Jazz(3-5) @ Atlanta Hawks(3-3) [5.30 PM MDT, 7.30 PM ET and 1.30 AM CET]

I think I'm both on here - at least with a handful of members.

Agree. Irrational love/hatred for one player (or coach) can be annoying. OK, so let me try to change my ways by stating we have 2 desperate needs: 1) Starting PG; 2) Starting PF. There MIGHT be hope for Kanter. He can at least score, although he'll likely never have reliable 3-pt range. As for Burke, well, I'm not too hopeful.

Why is that? He has a pretty damn fine stroke and has got to the point where he already is close to a respectable percentage from 3.

Is ~35% really good for a big guy as well? especially if they are only taking about 1 a game.

35% is good for a big man. It is right under the limit of being average for the league(36%). The direct value of him hitting 35% of 3pt shots is not the only value we get from it, though. The much more important thing we get from it is spacing... it is what him taking those shots mean to the offense of the team as a whole. In general it means less clogged paint, it means more space for penetration and more space for Favors to operate in the paint, it means much harder task for the opponent of double teaming our other players. In general - if you make the opponent guard you at the perimeter as a big man, you are providing additional positives to the offense that are not measured by the % of shots you actually hit. Now if he can keep hitting them at 35%, that would be great! 35% shooting from 3 means he'd be getting about 1.05 points per possession from those shots and would be contributing 52.5% eFG% to his shooting, which is not bad and should be guarded by opponents(the average eFG for the league is 50%, so it will be a better shot than the average for the league).

So to cut the rambling short - if Kanter keeps shooting 35% it is beneficial both in itself and as a crutch for creating spacing.
