Go GET Teague

The goal in team-building should always be to upgrade wherever possible.

IMO - Teague > Burke and Lyles > Booker. It doesn't affect Dante's place on the team, or his role moving forward. This team has assets available and should use them to upgrade the roster when possible. This looks like one of those moments - as long as the asking price doesn't include Burks/Hood. Booker and Burke don't have a future on this team. They should get something for them if there's an opportunity.

Would you do Burke, Lyles, and a pick? The Jazz will get outbid on just Burke + pick.

So Stockton could only develop by starting? Look again, He played behind a former all-star for 3 years before taking over. Atlanta may/may not go for Burke + assets. If you've done any reading at all, you know Teague wants out, It's not as public as the Kanter situation, but it's nearly to that point. What did DL accept for Enes. He didn't even get a quality player in return. Burke would be a very attractive asset for them. He's willing to come off the bench, allowing Schroeder to start. He's also a low-end starter if Schroeder struggles. He'll be a RFA if Atlanta chooses to keep him as a 6th man.

The Jazz aren't giving up Hood; that would be silly. But you also can't tell me Exum won't take time to recover from his injury. Look at every other player who has come back from an ACL. They're not at full strength/skill level after just one year. AND you REFUSE to see how bad Exum was offensively last season. He was a placeholder on the court - worse than Neto. Sure, he was good defensively. But he may NEVER have all the quickness he had before the injury, So we'll be seeing a player who will likely be somewhat worse defensively and HOPING he's improved his shopoting and penetrating, What if he hasn't? He also averaged 22 mins last season. He could average the same and that STILL leaves room for a PG like Teague to get 26 mins,

If Exum comes back 100% AND can shoot and drive,,,FANTASTIC! We're in great shape. And if that pushes someone like Teague to the bench, even BETTER! Exum/Teague or Teague/Exum is a HUGE upgrade over Neto/Exum or Exum/Burke or however Quin has to play those three. And Teague/Neto pushes Utah into the playoffs. To do NOTHING just alienates Hayward.

If ATlanta insists on Hood, no, DL walks away, But that's just posturing, Atlanta knows Utah isn't going to give up Hood (or Burks). They're just trying to get more picks or hope they can get another team to offer more.

Well, if this was 21 years ago, when it was easier to keep players and teams together then I'd agree with Exum coming off the bench, but no such luxury exists these days, contracts are shorter and building Windows for teams are shorter. We can't afford to let him take the appropriate time to sit on the bench and learn.

Also comparing Kanter and Teague... Teague is a former allstar and respected player at the nba's most important position. Kanter is still young and a bit of an unknown, though he is known for being the worst defensive big. Atlanta may have to give up value for Teague. He is more valuable this year and more sought after then Kanter last year.

I think chemistry should be a concern any time you make a trade. As for ball handling I also agree but does that apply to Teague? I don't know either.

I started watching them since the rumors... He moves the ball... Their offense is predicated on ball movement. I think he could get much bigger number on a team that let him dominate the ball more.

Exum's floor is a solid starter. His ceiling is really high. I'm not worried about his recovery from injury, he will be fine physically. Those who call him timid are wrong. Timid players aren't great defenders their rookie year. He wisely deferred to better players on offense to put his team in winning situations. His offense is improved and he will do more and more as he is confident in different parts of his game.

Our current teams hope is resting on Exum. We are a playoff team without him. Our championship hopes rely on him being really good. Otherwise we might have to retool.

That said adding Teague or another PG will not hurt him and will help the team. I would be shocked if Burke and Booker landed him but if it did, great! If it doesn't, he is not worth giving up any other decent players for. We can improve our bench in FA this year or other trades. The front office needs to go for it to start next season. We have to stop at asset acquiring and start building to win next season. But I think that was always their plan.

I love Exum's long-term potential & still view him as our PG of the future, but there is no way I would be willing to bet our ability to retain Hayward on Exum returning at 100% next year. Depending on the cost, Teague is a near perfect fit as he would help the team this year & next year on a bargain contract while not disrupting the long-term development of Exum. The more I think about it, the less I would be willing to give Burks up for Teague, but if Burke+Booker+1st gets it done (which I'm not sure it does) it would allow us to compete during the span of Hayward's contract while providing insurance in the event that Exum experiences a setback. It would also allow us to ease Exum back from his injury.

I was suggesting trading Booker, Burke and picks for Teague. Not Lyles. Lyles replaces Booker in the rotation, hence, making Booker more expendable.

We would lose so much with Booker though. The energy he brings to the team is unmatched. I know we probably wont bring him back next year, but Ill miss him if traded.

Getting Teague does not equate giving up on Exum. It means we have somebody who could help us win NOW and next year. He is a stopgap + an insurance policy.

ACL injuries take about 1-2 years for the player to come back fully healthy and playing at top level, Exum will need next year and the year after for that. Teague's contract will fit in nicely.

I think we at least owe it to Gobert, Favors, Hayward, Hood to get Teague and make a run at the playoffs this year and next while they are on the rise/peaking.

I don't disagree at all. Love Booker - his attitude, hustle and energy. I'd be sad to see that element of his game leave, but I'm just not sure how they can justify bringing him back at what he'll likely cost. If adding him to the trade makes it happen more easily, I'd do it. It's a basketball decision for the long-term interests of the whole team.

No matter what, we'll always have this. . .

I would do it because Lyles will be a defensive liability like Kanter. If you want to build a strong defensive team you can't have weak links.

Shame we missed out on Myles Turner because of a freaking coin flip.
