Going fishing off Mo'orea

One of the benefits of having a really, really rich friend is amazing trips. His dad is taking us and a few other buddies on a fishing excursion off Mo'orea. I've never been fishing in salt water. I'm pretty experienced in lakes/rivers. I used to fish constantly with my old man on the Selway. I'd imagine my upcoming trip isn't remotely like that so anyone who's been fishing out on the ocean or in Tahiti specifically - your advice/tips would be greatly appreciated.

lol - I think we'll be stocked with that stuff, but I've never had such a problem with motion sickness. I was thinking more along the lines of tips for lures/baits/etc...

I never had either, and I've logged thousands of hours on fishing boats. Depending on how deep the water is, how far off shore you go, etc., you can kiss past experience goodbye. I've never been sicker in my life than when I was halibut fishing in 300 feet of water off of Sitka, AK.

As for tips, lures, etc. we'll need more info. What species are you going for? How deep? Taking a fly rod?

When I was halibut fishing off Soldotna, Alaska; I never once felt even the slight bit sick. Couple other guys were chunking over the side, but not old iron gut here. Suck on that you big pansy.

where is Mo'orea?

Anyhow, ditto the previous comments about motion sickness on a boat in Alaska - though for me it was a sightseeing boat, not a fishing boat. And I didn't get totally sick, just felt a bit queasy for a spell. But I generally don't have any problems motion or sea sickness.

But it sounds like a great experience! Have fun. And don't let the big ones get away!

The best part about my experience is that it triggered something in me to where I routinely get sick on things now that I never did before. Rides at Lagoon, for example. Never even had a butterfly, but now the majority of them make me want to vomit.

I am pretty sure you will need that stuff, so yeah my advice is to take some lures baits and stuff with you. And have fun!

I would not worry about bait or lures, usually places like that provide you with everything. You may even get nice local chick to keep you company if fishing is boring.
