Jazz hold steady at #25

The wording is: I remain convinced that the game will get much easier for Gordon Hayward when he's surrounded by better help. In the interim: Hayward is one of just five players this season -- along with KD, LeBron, Westbrook and MCW -- averaging 15+ PPG, 5+ RPG and 5+ APG while being smothered

That is elite company. Discuss?

Shooting percentage needs to go up. Thats the only complaint. If he could shoot 45% and 36% or better (which I think he will do next year) he will be fine.

I think it will too. He shot like 44% and 41% from 3 last year. His shots have come from different spots, off the dribble, and smothered by the defense all of the 13-14 season. With a different offensive scheme that could get him some of his proffered looks, the development of A. Burks, Kanter, (and any other offensive player), and whoever we draft, he should return to form.

His assist to turnover rate is best among that list as well...for all those who were getting ready to say he is a turnover machine in traffic.

1. Hayward 1.89
2. James 1.83
3. Westbrick 1.73
4a. Durant 1.63
4b. MCW 1.63

His field goal percentages will go up when the talent around him gets better. All the other players besides MCW have great players playing alongside him.

This. Perhaps even more so, his FG percentage will go up and he will look better once there's a decent coach and his role on the team actually suits his skill set.

Hayward will look better if he had a better coach, if he was surrounded by better players, if he had a contract, if he wasn't engaged...that's a lot of IF's.

As opposed to players who look awesome no matter the context? All...3 of those in the NBA right now?

The trouble with getting you're head kicked in every night is that it becomes very difficult to determine if the individual stats of players are because of the team sucking or in spite of it.

This board can't agree on Kanter, Hayward,Burke or Favors. I hope DL and KOC and RR can sort through it all sometime between April 16 and June 26.

Go Jazz.

Normally, I'd agree...but, this fall, whether he is in Utah or not, he will have a better coach, will be surrounded by better players, and he will have a better contract.

So, it's a moot point. He will be better this fall, whether he is in Utah or not.

I'm not really sure what to make of Hayward's performance this year. I do know that if we're gonna be a successful team, then his role will be markedly different than it was this year. I think the experience has been good for him, but how he parlays that into (likely) a re-emphasis on off-ball play (particularly spot-up shooting) will be interesting.

Bottom line:
you can't have Gordon running the show when he can't hit the pull-up J or finish drives.
