Gordon Hayward Mentioned On Power Rankings

I dunno, maybe because the offensively challenged Jazz sorely need someone that can "score"? Hayward wants to be the highest paid player on the team, so is it unfair to expect our "face of the franchise" to provide what is needed most by the team?

Brilliant logic. The highest paid player on the team must also be "a scorer". So, if Hayward is cut loose and the highest paid player is Favors, then does he automatically become the face of the franchise and is he expected to "provide what is needed most by the team?"

Why does he need to be an elite on-ball scorer?

Exactly what else does Hayward do that would be considered elite?

I like Hayward, I like his game…but I don't like his game for more than $10 million a year.

What do you think would be a fair wage for Hayward?

This is that hard asset management strategy the FO has always talked about. They knew the situation could lower his performance, and thus make him less appealing and costly, or if he succeeded, then he'd be worth every penny of what they gave him.

Contract negotiations occurred after the team was blown up and the new role was defined. He probably didn't want to tank, and since they were making him the new #1 option, he probably wanted to be paid like at least a #2 since the team was putting him in a position where it could all blow up in his face. Speculation is fun.

Well said Sexy Favors.

You mean they put him in a leading role after he wanted a contract that would assume he should be in a leading role?

Yeah…he should be pissed.

No they didn't pay him for the role they wanted him to play. Its like having managerial responsibility but still getting cashier pay.

All that on top of the fact that the team was literally set up to fail. Which as Favs pointed out hasn't helped his end of businesses.

Quick question, what country flag is that bro?

Pretty much. There are few $10mm+ players who neither fill a primary offensive or defensive role nor are considered wildly overpaid. $10mm is an overpay for Hayward; you can get 80% of his impact in a spot-up shooter at 50% of the price (if you have actual primary offensive/defensive players on the roster...if not, what's the point?).

There are only 57 players in the league making $10mm+ this season. If the most important roles on the team are primary and secondary offensive hub and defensive anchor, none of which can be filled by Gordo, there are a lot fewer $10mm+ players than total spots for those roles.

GVC 57 players is 13% of the entire league. That's not few.

I consider 13 percent to be a small number.

In fact i can think of 87 different percentage numbers (with 100 being the max) that are larger.

13% is a large pool for the highest paid in any profession. Also you have a bunch of players making the league min of around 350k. 10-12mill is not a lot for a strong playmaker.
