What's new

Gordon Hayward

I totally get your point but if Favors is our #3, Hood our #4 and Gobert our #5, then yeah, we'd roll mother****ers.

Favs could very well be a 20/10 guy and Hood 20+. I think you can run Derrick as the primary in P&R's with kick-outs to Hood behind the arc. Comes down to which two others do you have as the 3PT threats. Hayward is shooting more 3's this season, but Utah doesn't have a decent PG. The bench is also very weak (yes, I also need to recognize Exum and Burks affect both). Dante HAS to cme back as a shooter. If not, DL needs to get Teague, Conley or some other PG. Simply cannot have two non-shooters in Gobert and Exum.

I think Hayward is a 20/4/4 guy, Hood a 16/3/3 guy, Favors a 18/10 guy, Gobert a 12/12/2 guy and Exum a 10 points a game player next season.

The key in being able to win and win at a very high level with that core is imo our health and the development of Gobert and Exum on the offensive end. If they can become guys who can (and oftentimes do) score a legit 12-16 points on any given night, then I believe we have the scoring balance needed (along with elite defense) to be able to make a deep playoff run. Obviously locking down opponents and hitting big shots in the playoffs is a whole 'nother matter.

But I think that core on the court can be a team that makes a deep playoff run. While on that topic, I also think we need to (vastly?) improve our passing so that we can move the ball around quickly and crisply like the Dubs and Spurs do, thus finding guys for wide-open shots, not just passing for passing's sake. Along with that, the bench would have to develop. Lyles is a keeper. I like Withey too as he continues our defensive presence even when Gobert is out. I suppose Burks and Burke are two good bench guys too. But I would love one more guy, a legit 3 who is a 3 and d guy I'd say to round out our 10. Someone with some attitude too. A Tony Allen type maybe.

Good overall post but one thing I would nit pick.
There is no three in Tony Allen. Only d

There is something definitely wrong with the mentality of our market. All I keep hearing is that we have to sell Gordon on our team. No one is talking about having to sell Favors, Gobert, or Exum on the direction of this team. What happens if he leaves? We had the second best pg in the league leave us without as much talent as we have now and we were fine. Man it is like you guys think that he by himself makes us a playoff team. Sorry, but he couldn't cut it this year by himself. It isn't until Hood stepped up or Favors and Gobert came back can we even see a watchable team. When will this madness stop?

We didn't have the 2nd best PG LEAVE us, He was traded for decent assets (Favs, draft picks and an interim PG). That's why we ended up "fine." And that's the point everyone is making with Hayward. If he's not "sold" on the team, then better to get very good assets in a trade, Not worried about Gobert and then Exum because they will be RESTRICTED. Jazz can match any offer - if it comes to that. And yes, Favs does need to be sold on the team. But he doesn't have an opt-out so he's locked up for one season beyond Hayward.
