I voted for Gordon and it'll take a lot to make me switch to Vonleh. Everyone here is talking about how raw Gordon is on offense(which he is), but when I look at clips of Vonleh I still see someone who is raw on offense. Granted he isn't AS raw, but he is still raw and needs a lot of polishing. We are still going through the growing pains of a PF who was drafted raw offensively, do we really need to do it again?
It also concerns me how Vonleh gets in foul trouble quick. I just see Vonleh as a lesser, more unpolished version of Favors in some instances. We don't need that.
Its been said before but I will say it again, Gordon's BBIQ is way good, much much higher than Vonleh. And thats on both sides of the ball. Gordon is always in the right place, Vonleh seems to find himself out of place often.

Gordon is also 18, and one of the youngest players in the entire draft.

Think about how much of the game he has mastered so far. It isn't ridiculous to assume that the rest of the package is still coming.

Vonleh is also very skinny where Gordon is extremely strong.

I'd say Gordon is by far the better athlete (lol @ anyone who thinks you can quantify one's athleticism simply by their combine measurements), has a better BBIQ and feel for the game, a better motor, and more of that "it" personality... the competitiveness/perfectionism... the desire to be THE BEST.

Vonleh has a crazy long wingspan paired with monstrous hands and a better offensive repertoire at the moment.

I like Vonleh's chances better at becoming a reliable two-way player, but I like Gordon's chances better at becoming a star. If that makes sense. I just don't see enough bad-assery in Vonleh. I do see a lot of it in Gordon, actually.

I think if we keep this pick, we need to swing for the fences. Right now, I'd take Gordon over Vonleh.

Pretty much my thoughts.

I live in Tucson, attended a few UofA games, so I admit bias. What REALLY turned me on to Gordon was the U19 tournament. Dude came off the bench and was MVP. He just has the ability to be whatever his team needs at the time. Reminds me a lot of Scotty Pippen in that way. . . His 3 point shooting is not horrendous at 35%. I think he would thrive in a supporting role as a first and second year player. Arizona often depended upon him to do too much, which kind of stunted his development in his fundamental game. I got the feeling that when things started getting out of hand there was a lot of "just go out there and be a hero," instead of settling him down and running the plays. Also Arizona scored a tremendous amount in transition which didn't translate into Gordon taking a lot of screened shots from the elbow (for an example). I could learn to do that as an 18 year old with some success, it doesn't take too much to believe that Gordon could too. Just give him Harpring's offensive game and the dude is a multi year allstar. With his BBIQ that is doable, no?

Imagine if Gordon put on 20lbs. I think he'd still be able to attack from and guard on the perimeter ala LeBron. That's how athletic he is.

You can't be an All-Star and have no elite skill. Vonleh does nothing elite. Next year Gordon will be one of the most athletic defenders in the league.

Vonleh is elite in that he can be for the jazz what they need him to be, if we need scoring from the paint he'll provide it. If we need scoring from the perimeter, and create space for Favors and driving lanes for Burks and Hayword and gives the team options on pick'n roll plays.

Right now all Gordon is is an athletic defender. Has no jumper or inside game at the nba level.

Gordon's lack of feel and skill on the offensive end scares the crap out of me. I think if you expect him to be a decent offensive player, you're in for a disappointment. And not being able to hit half your free-throws is unreal for anyone who doesn't have ginormous hands. He's showing up in the 8 - 10 range on mocks, and I don't think he's really a candidate at 5.

I think Vonleh has a very high floor, as a rich man's Marvin Williams or Rashard Lewis. He's a 2-way player with elite length and good shooting touch. He can potentially play any frontcourt position, and his versatility suggests he'll benefit from NBA spacing. Plus, he's very young and has a lot of room to improve. You're looking at a potential Chris Bosh-caliber player, which is the right asset to draft at #5.

I think the debate at 5 should really be between Randle, Vonleh and Smart. I'd predict that Gordon goes 7 or 8 in this draft.

This. Never been a fan of drafting Gordon.
