Because he suffered a season ending shoulder injury before the final year of his contract. The Jazz know talent and have their standards. It was never explained why he was released as far as I know, but there must have been a reason. I doubt he becomes anything more than a end of the bench player, so no real loss. Even if they give him significant minutes, those minutes would have taken away from our young core's minutes had we given him those same minutes. I am surprised that we supposedly paid him his full salary to release him.
Grant was honestly one of the worst players I have ever seen on a guaranteed contract.

He also had a reason to get a guarantee. He played well the game year before. Were you following the Jazz when we had Amaechi? Literally, the worst player we've had. He came with a lot of hype, too.

Jarret was a scrub at Arizona who left after a horrendous year. He never deserved a NBA contract but somehow he got a guaranteed deal.I never followed him in Orlando other than the stats. Just remember being lukewarm on a "center" scoring 10 PPG who couldn't rebound. Everyone hyped his jump shot opening things up for Malone and media kept showing clips of his mid-range J. In fact, those clips may have been the only time his midrange J was seen. Plenty of worse people than Garrett have gotten guarantees.
