Harris Sucks as a PG

The team looked better last night, but I think this is due to the competition and playing at home rather than Harris picking up his game. I thought his defense on Jack was horrible. He could not or would not stay in front of him, I watched him (Harris) jog back on defense and watch plays rather than getting involved. His "assists" are not assists they are simply throwing the ball around the horn and somebody takes the shot. he creates nothing, he does not open up the defense, does not pentrate and kick, he does not run pick and rolls ( the one time Harris and Jefferson ran a pick and roll it resulted in 2 pts).

I don't know if it is Corbin's offense or Harris inability, but our offense seems haphazard or "seat of the pants". There does not appear to be a lot of set plays.

I don't remember Jack beating Harris off the dribble but the screen and roll was problematic when Jefferson was the help defender. Millsap and Favors showed better on the screen and recovered. Jefferson stood there and let Jack take open jumpers-which he hit.

The team was forcing the Jack over the screen and baseline. The big was supposed to redirect the point guard away from the hoop and towards the baseline until Harris could recover. Harris did his job to force the pick and roll towards the baseline. The team could have executed this better

Most seemed to have missed the point of this thread. It did not say "Harris sucks at all times", it said "harris sucks as a pg".

He does suck as a pg. That pass last night to Milsap was brilliant but they are few and far between. He strikes me as a decent SG who pretends to be a PG. He does not seem good at all at getting the offense started. Great in transition, but beyond that, meh.

This is what happens when you have Stockton and Dwill as your two main PG's over the last 25 years. People get spoiled. Harris made several nice passes last night. He isn't going to make every pass, but he usually makes the easy ones. He isn't selfish. I hardly see him taking many pull up jumpers or ill-advised shots. When he does shoot it is usually a spot up 3 or a drive. I think the key to our success this year will be the aggressiveness of Harris. When he gets going teams have trouble not fouling him, which leads to our whole team playing more aggressively. He may not make his teammates better with his passing, but I think the way he pushes tempo does.

Perfect!
As you said, The key to Harris is he HAS to be aggressive.

Excellent analysis. He may not be in the top tier of point guards but he doesn't suck either. He is just a different type of point guard from what Jazz fans are used to. The issue for Harris is for him to keep up his aggressiveness throughout the season. I wonder if being on a losing team just demotivates him since that's what he attributed his lack of form in NJ to.

How does Harris compile assist when his main scoring threat is an ISO-post player? When his starting SG can't score? When his starting SF is playing weak? When his starting PF is in a shooting slump?

"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Cyrone Torbin again."

Harris doesn't help his teammates much, but at least he's playing aggressive and doing SOMETHING out there. 19 points on 9 shots is insane. Getting to the line and hitting 3s matters, and if he can do more of the latter more consistently, he'll extend his effectiveness by about 3 years.

History says that is unlikely, though.

Well, having seen Stockton and Dwill over the years, Jazz fans have a high standard to compare others to. Some might say we've been spoiled, others that we're accustomed to a higher standard of living. Pardon me for not wanting to slum it with Devin Harris. I'll continue to look for better accommodation.

There is currently nothing better on the market that can be had for a reasonable price. It's a recession.
