Harris Sucks as a PG

This is what happens when you have Stockton and Dwill as your two main PG's over the last 25 years. People get spoiled. Harris made several nice passes last night. He isn't going to make every pass, but he usually makes the easy ones. He isn't selfish. I hardly see him taking many pull up jumpers or ill-advised shots. When he does shoot it is usually a spot up 3 or a drive. I think the key to our success this year will be the aggressiveness of Harris. When he gets going teams have trouble not fouling him, which leads to our whole team playing more aggressively. He may not make his teammates better with his passing, but I think the way he pushes tempo does.

Rep'd.

Harris with 5 assist at half and making nice passes in the half-court off the pick and roll.

Is there something wrong with taking pull up jumpers?

Why is that shot selfish and other shots are not selfish?

I think the Jazz really need to take more pull up shots. Why drive into a crowd when you've got an open shot from short range?

A pull up jumper requires no ball movement. I don't mean if he is wide open in space and pulls up, I mean if he has a defender and tries to pull up in his face. Just generally not a great play, especially if you aren't a great shooter.

Harris had some very nice D-Wil esque pick n roll runs at the first half today.
But maaaan this game was ugly. It's games like this that you need Evans off the bench.

I think Harris got royally screwed out of 5 points and into 2 TO's on terrible charging calls.

Harris has played a lot better over the last 2 games. And he hasn't played bad on the whole (but hardly great.) Expectations might be a little high given what we're used to. Lets see how the next 5 or 10 games go.

After reading through the posts, as one poster put it, the point was that Harris is not a good PG. I never said he isn't skilled or talented. He just doesn't have the court awareness or the mentality of a point guard. He looks for his own shot before thinking pass, which often results in him taking a bad shot when there are teammates with much better and easier opportunities. As a result, I think he is better suited to be a backup PG, a role he filled well when he played for Dallas.

Read this on another site. Talking about the game vs. the Bucks. "They actually had three point guards play a combined 48 minutes and they scored a combined 0 points." Play Burks at point guard. Guaranteed he will score some points and give more assist to I would bet.
