First, I apologize for starting a separate Jimmer thread.
20 some years ago I graduated from the U of U, so of course I hate BYU. To make it worse I have 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Most of them went to school at the U, but because they are Mormon they cheer for the Y. This makes me hate the Y even more; disloyalty. This last year I got a lot of calls to watch Jimmer, because according to my family he's only the second person to ever walk on water. I finally tuned in to find flaws with his game.
Here is what I saw. A player who didn't even try to play defense. I don't think he ever got in a defensive stance all year. It was pathetic and showed a lack of effort.
However, his offensive game stunned me. I watched teams devote entire defensive games plans to stop him and they couldn't. I saw a scorer, not just a three point wizard. He scored in the lane with floater, floppers, drop shots, hook shots, (shots from the game of HORSE), etc. His shot extends beyond the NBA three point line.
I concluded that despite my hate and his complete lack of defensive skills, I would draft the kid because he plays a role for an NBA team. Every team needs role players and Jimmer has a role to play. Shooter.
It is clear to me that whether we draft Jimmer at 12 (anybody who says 3 goes or went to the Y) depends entirely on two things. First, who we take with the first pick and second who is left at 12. If we take DW2 with the 3rd pick I think Jimmer goes to the Jazz. If we take Kanter with the 3rd pick I think Jimmer goes to the Jazz. If we take Knight with the first pick we don't take Jimmer at all, even if he is the BPA at 12. The only thing that possibly messes up this prediction is if one of the Big 3 remaining Euro's falls to 12.
There is no need to ever bring up Jimmer again because we know what will happen.
