Haul for D-Will vs Haul for CP3

We'll have to see how it all pans out, but they're quite comparable.

If I had a gun to my head, I choose the Clips deal. Why? The proven player is also on his rookie deal (very cheap, very good, could still get better, legit rebuilding piece), Aminu could be a really nice piece, Kamen is a nice piece (though not a rebuilding piece), Minny's 2012 UNPROTECTED? This could be a #1 overall pick in a draft being heralded like it could be the next 2008, 2003, or 1996.

I think year the Wolves are going to be in the race for a playoff spot.

They have Rubio, Johnson, Beasley, Love and Darko. Ridnour, D. Williams and Anthony Randolph off the bench is a decent rotation.

I'm thinking NOR may have a worse record this year than Minny. They lost David West and Chris Paul. They may well be in the lottery.

In other words, they should have a great chance at having 2 high picks in a very strong draft. That's EXACTLY what they want for a team that's rebuilding. Kinda weird, but it almost looks like David Stern knows what he's doing. Who would thought.

IMHO I like what we got more then what Clips got for Paul although I feel the deals are pretty close. My opinion mainly hinges on Favors and his potential. I am also relieved that we didn't have to go through the circus that has been the Chris Paul trade race.

It'll be an awkward moment when David Stern or Adam Silver represent the Hornets at the next Draft Lotto. "The 2nd pick in the 2012 draft goes to... The New Orleans Hornets. *blush*"

*crickets chirp off in the distance*

They were atrocious last year and have made no veteran improvement whatsoever. Rubio was god-awful in EUROPE last year. They drafted a 4 for a team that already had one too many.

If they get better, it's because of Adelman, plain and simple.

Which deal would you rather take?

D-Will:

Devin Harris
Favors
Nets Pick (Turned into 3rd Overall)
GS Pick (remains to be seen)

CP3:

Eric Gordon
Kaman
Aminu
Unprotected Minnesota 1st

CP3 deal looks a little better doesn't it?

Another important question is do you think Deron would have the same value as CP3, league-wide?

Right now...
Gordon > Favors (but that could flip)
Aminu ~ Kanter (TBD)
Kaman < Harris (Harris glue, Kaman is serviceable but salary dump)
MIN ~ GS (TBD)

If DWill was traded to LAC:
Watson / Gordon / Hayward-Aminu / Millsap / Jefferson-Kaman
But he wasnt:
Harris / Burks / Hayward / Favors-Millsap / Jefferson-Kanter

So after looking at the above rosters, I like the NJ package cause of Favors & another potential bruising big w/ the Undertaker!

Too many unknowns...how good will Favors be? How good will Kanter be? How high will the T-Wolves pick be? (fwiw I could see Minnesota having a decent season).
Gordon clearly is the most establish piece and as mentioned by others...could be one of the two or three best 2-guards in the league within 3 years.

If I had to pick one of the two and I was a GM worried about job security, I would probably pick the Hornets' haul because of Gordon...but as a Jazz fan if could trade Utah's haul for the Hornets haul right now - I'd keep Utah's haul.

It all rests upon favors burly shoulders. If he reaches his potential, we are hands down winners. If not, I like their deal better.

NJ's package may be a little bit more of a risk, but one worth taking. Gordon is nice but Favors is worth the risk. Lets say worse case sinario Favors = Horford, and best case sinario Favors = Stoudamire. If he's only a Horford it's atleast still debatable whether you take the solid big man in Horford or E.Gordon. I'd say Horford cause scoring 2-guards are easier to find.

Not disagreeing with your post entirely, but Eric gordons don't grow on trees as you suggest. That said I like favors potential, but would love a dynamic scorer like eg. I guess I would take the nj package, but it's not an easy win for us. We have not had a true scorer on this team since Karl Malone.

i think clippers gave up too much, gordon really is a good player, but they will certainly make playoffs this year

Here the current players we have, Favors+Kanter seem more valuable than Gordon alone, but the key point is, they have unprotected minny pick which will be a very good player probably, and it is much worth than our gsw pick

Plus I bet we would have opted for Bledsoe rather than Aminu in the package.

I think timing is also important. If the jazz had not traded DWill last year, ad if bothe CP3 and Dwill were on the trade market at the same time, probably, both teams would have to agree a lower quality deals due to the competition.

As others have said, there are just too many unknowns. It's too early to tell how good Favors, Kanter and Aminu will be, we don't know what the picks will produce, we don't know if the Hornets will try to move Kaman and what they will get if they do. It's very close right now, but we are probably not going to know the answer to this question for a couple of years. I did like seeing this headline though: "Lakers Fuming at Chris Paul Trade".

Clippers getting Chris Paul is by FAR a better deal. I don't care what the Hornets, or the Jazz, or the Nets got, because none of those teams acquisitions caused the LaLakers team and media boys to get upset. Chris Paul to the Clippers has the Laker lovers howling, and that is great. Can't wait for Kobe to demand a trade to the Magic or Nets.

Going to ask this question because I'm bored....

If you could choose doing the D-Will trade last year, or doing the trade this year which would you pick, knowing what we got in the draft with Kanter and Burks last year?

Especially in light of getting Billups, the Clippers were in the power position and ended up giving up too much. If they gave up Eric Bledsoe instead of Eric Gordon, then that would have been a perfect trade for both sides. I might have also tried to protect the Minnesota pick for the Top 3.

Comparing it to the Utah deal, the Hornets did a bit better, as it gives them more flexibility than the Jazz got, in that Kaman is a large expiring deal and the Minnesota pick compared to the GSW pick is unprotected.
