What's new

Hawks at Jazz...or Rudy's Revenge 7pm

Nothing would make me chose Conley and pay him 33 mil a year for next two years.

I agree, 100%! Not paying Conley 33 million a year when we can have Rubio for what, 23 million per year? With the money saved we can get another player to pick up the slack and still win as many if not more games, playoff and otherwise, for the 10 million bucks saved. Reminds me of what the Thunder have done in picking up Schroeder to rest Westbrook, or compliment him! Thunder doing very well with Schroeder on the team now!

Do you think he's on the trading block or not? If so why?

He pretty obviously isn't. Not sure why anyone would think otherwise.

In order for him to be on the trading block the Jazz would have to be actively seeking for a buyer, which is not what is happening. At all. The Jazz are willing to move him for an upgrade before the trade deadline, as they should whether it's him or any other player on the roster. The possibility is there since the Grizzlies are now willing and hoping to move Conley (who actually IS on the trading block, as is Marc Gasol), and the Pels might be willing to trade Holiday and his contract due to AD's request. So if the Jazz think Conley or Holiday are better players / better fits and they're worth giving up Rubio + assets, then by all means they have to pull the trigger and try to get them when there's a chance.

Still not sure what any of it has to do with Rubio playing great last night and people still having a hard time recognizing it, but glad I could help clarify the situation.

Doubt Rubio would command more than 20mil/year. Maybe he can be signed for 16 mil a year for extra year or so. Like give him 3 years/50 mil deal and it is a steal.

If we re-sign Rubio for anything even close to $23 million a year then Dennis Lindsey should be fired.

I can see him signing something around his current salary. 14M to 15M per year seems about right if he re-signs with the Jazz, while maybe some other team desperate for PG help can go a bit higher, into the 17M-18M range. There will be a pretty decent market next summer considering the cap spike and the positions available.

The top FAs at his spot will be Kyrie and Kemba. Then you have Russell, Bledsoe, Brogdon (not strictly a PG, but still) and Ricky. After that there's an older guy coming off a serious injury like Dragic, a barely adequate starter like Collison, and a young guy like Rozier who was extremely hyped by some after his hot stretch last season but is still pretty far from being a good PG. Pending the trade deadline and the draft with two guys like Morant and Garland who will be picked in the lottery, the Celtics, Suns, Magic, Pacers, Jazz, Heat, Hornets, Nets, Bucks and Bulls will all be looking for a starting PG. The Pistons will also try to get some help as they face the last year on Reggie Jackson's crappy contract, and the Clippers will probably be looking to get another veteran to help Gilgeous-Alexander. That's a bunch of teams and not a lot of talent available, especially with guys like Kemba and Russell most likely re-signing with their teams.

I may not think it's worth it, but I fully understand the Jazz trying to get Conley or Jrue. They're obviously better scorers than Rubio, and they'll also be under contract past next summer. If DL is not sure about Ricky being willing to re-sign (or not being willing to do it for whatever the Jazz offer) then they could find themselves with a worse starting PG next season.

16m a year is way too expensive for what Rubio gives you. 10m is fine, since he can come off the bench when we get an upgrade.

You've been saying the same for some time now, but neither of those things is happening. Rubio won't sign with the Jazz for 10M per year and he won't do it to come off the bench in the near future. That's not the reality of the market and that's clearly not his idea at this point in his career. And as stated in my previous message, the Jazz may well end up striking out in free agency and wishing they had a starter as good as Rubio next season. Be careful what you wish for.

I'd rather roll with Exum the scrub than be stuck with Rubio at 3/50.

And that's perfectly fine. Even if you may not think the same should the Jazz be a worse team next year because they lack a proper PG, that's your opinion right now and you're entitled to it. I just don't think we should debate around hypotheticals that are really unlikely to happen, like the low salary and the bench role.

I don't think the market for PGs who are poor shooters and who aren't great at anything else is that hot. I'd be shocked if a good team gives Rubio 16m per. Shocked!
