What's new

Hayward --> Celtics ?

Nets trade I think?

Yes. They had to take back contracts in order to deal all those vets to Brooklyn. So unlike Lindsey, who just allowed Millsap and Big Al to "walk for nothing," Ainge took back contracts. Humphries was no big deal; it expires this year. But the Wallace contract is a killer. They are handcuffed in free agency. I sure am glad we don't have a GM taking on long-term trash. Instead, I'm sure DL has emphatically said, "we know you can't make an offer to Hayward this summer. You won't have cap space unless/until you trade Rajon. And by that time, we'll have either re-signed Gordon or he'll have signed an offer sheet with someone else. So call me back if you're willing to give up your pick with no restrictions. Nice speaking with you Danny. Keep in touch."

Oh and you just do that if you as the Jazz GM feel comfortable that they finish bottom 5! We don't need a 8th-9th pick. If that's where we think they finish than you don't do it. You would just get a Gordon type player who needs time to develop and is nowhere near the player Wiggins or Parker is.

You are forgetting that losing hayward makes our own pick better and increases our chance at jabari wiggins

Seriously guys seven pages about pure speculation? The guy said the Celtics are interested in Gordon. Is that some kind of new news? He did not even talk about a trade scenario and is just throwing out names. Laughable!

But while I'm at it. You just do a trade with expiring players and there unprotected pick. Oh and you just do that if you as the Jazz GM feel comfortable that they finish bottom 5! Yep. Seven pages and it's pure speculation. I know what's going to happen: NOTHING and we're going to spend the next several seasons reading "fire DL" threads because he didn't trade Hayward. Boston is bottom-feeding. They think Utah is desperate to deal Gordon because he turned down a contract offer. So they're offering nothing of real value. Hayward > 1 1/2 years of Rondo (almost no chance he re-signs). Hayward > Green.

Gordon was a #9 pick. He may not be a star, but he's a proven commodity. All the prospects that will be on the board with the Boston pick are just that - prospects. Give Hayward to Boston and that pick ends up #9. Of course, Utah's may improve to #6. But at #9, you're just as likely to get a Cole Aldrich as you are a Gordon Hayward. More likely to get a role player than Paul George. There's a chance - albeit a small one - that the pick jumps to top-3. And for that reason, Boston is not going to let the pick go.

That train was gone a long long time ago. I thought you know that fish...

It could get back on track if we traded hayward for a pick and continue holding guys out of games for minor injuries (favors is a gametime decision tonight, along with jeffy)

I can't see this trade happening. According to Hoops Hype, we're not interested in Green or Rondo (because Rondo will bolt). So who does that leave? I doubt they'll trade Olynick or Sullinger, and it's always been reported Boston doesn't want to trade either first round pick to us. So what's left?

There was never a trade, just that the Celtics were interested in Hayward. So the Jazz looked into it and the Celtics said they didn't want to trade much.

I'm sure they'd trade Olynick or Sullinger for Hayward. But Utah wouldn't take either as compensation. And a #18 pick (the 2nd Boston pick) ain't gonna get a deal done. Hayward is a proven player, invited to nat'l team workouts. He's top-10 value. And there's the rub; Boston doesn't want to give up a top-10 pick for fear it jumps into the top-3. And if the Jazz were to allow any protection (and Boston got lucky), Utah would get a pick in the late teens next year. So, you're right. This "rumor" was nothing more than wishful thinking by someone who put ex-college coach and player together and then floated completely one-sided ways that Boston could make a deal.

I would not be upset if Hayward was traded. I like him, I think he's talented, I just don't think he has that intangible that makes him a winner. What is that intangible? It's that chip on his shoulder that make him want to win. I also think he's a subpar shooter and I personally have no confidence in his shooting.

This.
See playoff resume, contract year performance. I want Trey and Alec with the game on the line, not Gtime.

I really think that have the pressure of being the man, and then not being offensively successful has caused him to question himself. He looks like the type of guy that is really hard on himself and it can create a spiral. I also think that if the Jazz find a legit #1 option somehow Gtime will feel a bit rejected (demoted) rather than responding with a chip on his shoulder to retake his territory.

I know we all think he is a 3rd option, but I don't think he does.

I love the spin some media put on this:
"Jazz reluctance to deal Hayward means no Celtics reunion with Brad Stevens"

Oh, Dennis Lindsey is such a mean-spirited man. Shame on him for making Hayward miss a reunion. How about "Celtics refusal to trade their lottery pick nixes chance at a Hayward/Stevens reunion?"

That's good though, means DL is playing hard ball and isn't a pushover.
