The thing is too if the jazz match then I doubt Burks or Kanter would sign contracts. They'll just assume they can play out the year and get more money and it will suck if they turn out to be better than hayward.
Thats exactly why the Jazz wont match, a move like this flies directly in the face of the strategy of rebuilding thru draft picks.
This sets a terrible precedent for the other players, Favors signed in and wanted to keep the core together.
Hayward on the other hand is trying to hold the salary cap hostage over a few million bucks, when hes the oldest of 8 recent 1st round picks (most of whom look promising and worthy of respectable 2nd contracts). Why not pay the players who want to be here? theres not some huge talent gap and theres stop-gap players to be found, and enough young depth on the roster where we can target a SF in the draft next year nomatter what.
Hayward obviously dosent want to be here, the Trade Kicker and Player Option make that obvious.
