But not the year after, because next year Kanter and Burks are going to demand max money and the Jazz won't be able to match. You cannot build a championship team by paying players twice what they are worth.

1. Last year's team was the least watchable team in my time as a Jazz fan (since 03/04). I'm not sure Exum, Hood and internal growth change that so quickly. We may be in for another ugly sub-30-win season.
2. So the Jazz should just keep all the players currently on the roster and punt the next 3 to 4 years? That's the argument FOR matching Gordo's contract? Depressing.

How do yall feel in-general about 'the Market' setting prices??
I for one am not a fan, though im a staunch believer that things are worth what people will pay for them.
My biggest issue is, if the market is overpaying everyone, why participate at-all ?
Is there something pressing? (the playoffs? need to fill seats?)
Knowing when to take your chips off the table is probably more important than getting the chips in the first place.

I don't have a problem with the market setting prices.. as long as MY team doesn't overpay.

1. The market sets the price. In pro sports free agency, the market price is equal to at least as much as the second highest price a team is willing (and able) to pay.
2. The market price for a player is not the same as his value to a particular team.
3. The RFA price for a player may or may not represent what that player will be worth in the future. That is, the Jazz should be concerned about how much Gordo is worth to them as a player and as an asset that can be traded now AND in the future.
4. Given 2 and 3 above, the Jazz should be concerned about Gordo's RFA price (the other team max) because it's likely correlated with his value to teams in the future (when he could be traded). That is, we might see Gordo as being worth far less than he'll be paid, but other teams may value Gordo enough that it makes more sense to match than to hold onto the cap space (and the potentially improved pick).

Ahh, the old "go root for another team" stick. I'm not going to respond to that because I wish to remain civil. As for slowing down my expectations, I've been a Jazz fan since they moved from New Orleans; I've been waiting for 42 years.
