But the Celtics aren't actually giving anything. That's why this is so stupid. They want the Jazz do send them a 2nd round pick IN ADDITION TO them taking our best player?
Yeah, sorry, that's just ****ed up. They give up literally nothing by agreeing to do a S&T. In fact, that TPE is MUCH more likely to negatively impact a different team in the NBA, in other words, more likely to help the Celtics anyway.
But again, and it can't be restated enough, the Celtics lose NOTHING by agreeing to do a S&T. Nothing, except maybe their growing reputation as total ****ing dicks.
They already made moves so that they didn't need what we could give them. But... before they did that, we could have given them some cap space for a player that seemed disgruntled and plays the same position as Hayward. I wouldn't have cost them anything. We would have been giving them cap space. We obviously would have gotten more out of the deal, but it isn't like we would have gotten anything by screwing them over, it would have cost them nothing to throw us a bone. But Ainge probably figured he could squeeze us and we weren't in the mood for being squeezed, so it didn't happen.
Your last sentence, if this had been done on the 5th or 6th it WOULD have benefited them. I would have ****ing benefited them. It seemed like a no brainer deal at the time. Everyone comes out feeling okay.
At this point the Jazz FO wouldn't piss on Ainge if he was on fire. Maybe that never matters. Maybe one day he dies in a ****ing fire.

Let me break this down for you.
The TPE would help us, not Boston. Correct? So it's valuable, but only to us.
Let's say you and I are in a competitive business together. I have something that's worthless to me. It could be somewhat valuable to you though. Am I just going to give it to you? Hell no! I'm competing with you. If I get no benefit from this, then it ain't happening.
Do you understand?

Sure, they could've done a deal before. Would've been nice for us if they had.
We weren't the only game in town. Boston found a better deal for them. So now they're bad sports because they did what's best for them rather than feeling sorry for us? If the situation was reversed, and DL didn't take the best deal possible bc he felt bad for the other team, I'd be pissed at him, so would you, and rightfully so. This isn't a charity league, it is in all forms, a competitive business.

What asset would ainge be giving up? He would be getting an asset and giving up nothing at all.
But apparently he would rather screw the jazz than receive a free asset.
Boston is in competition with the 29 other teams, why give something to another team to help them?
I think most GM's would do it to create goodwill, but Ainge obviously gives no ****s. He holds the chips and he is playing bully ball.

Which is why much of this is on Hayward. If it's true that he really was torn about leaving Utah it would have been inconsequential for him to call up Danny Ainge and say, I'm picking you but it has to be a s/t. At the time Boston needed to cut salary anyway. There is no way Ainge balks at that(unless he's a bigger ******* that I thought), it would have been in everyone's best interest. And like others have pointed out, the nature of the NBA means the day may come when Boston needs to work out another transaction involving Utah. People remember **** like this.

It's the Pritchard angle of GM-ing. It flames out.
Spitefulness and/or being pointlessly cutthroat in the big picture is a terrible way to operate. Maybe Ainge was onto something when he said that he thinks that teams ask for more from the Celtics because they have more, but maybe it has to do more with that they don't like him and how he does business on top of it all.
I will again say that the Jazz and Celtics aren't in direct competition, there are 28 other teams, and it's more likely the Jazz would get an edge on a team that's not the Celtics which by extension is more likely to help the Celtics on the market anyway.
