Hayward to opt out

See, the nice thing is that we can re-sign anybody that is already on our team, even over the cap, so that includes the entire core and our vet additions too. The Jazz have already shown that they will go over the cap for a bit if it means putting a winning team on the floor, so if they want to keep Hill/Johnson/Borris, they can and will, and still keep the core intact. As for Hayward opting out, he'd be stupid not to, and I think he wants to stay here.

And if he leaves, guess what; we have 14 players that can fill the spot plus whomever we draft next season. Sure, he'd be missed, but that's the breaks.

The Hayward debacle begins...

Hey Logger. Hope you're well, dude. Could you be more specific in regards to why you think this is a debacle? Personally, I was expecting Hayward to opt out. Fiscally, it seems like the prudent decision.

I see this as a good thing - if GH is putting the organization on notice now then the FO has an entire season to financially plan accordingly if they want to keep him. Not that they weren't anyway.

It is what it is - we all knew opting out was a no-brainer. Now we don't have to put up with 9 months of the standard "uhh, I'll weigh all my options when the season's over" nonsense that you hear from so many players.

The Hayward debacle begins...

Not debacle, rather a total apocalypse (sarcasm)

In my opinion, if he leaves, it is a setback but not the end of the world. It would give the Jazz a lot more room to sign our other young talent well into the future. Signing Hill becomes more feasible. Etc.

Didn't he sign an offer sheet with Charlotte and the Jazz matched. His agent is agressive.

Agent is not so important. He'll get a choice of several max offers and decide where he wants to play. All Jazz can offer him that others cannot is 5-year contract (assuming they do not use their only 5-year Bird exception on Gobert first).

Why am I getting the feeling he does not want to play in Salt Lake City. Is it time to trade for Jeremy Evans to keep him happy?

Dear Gawd... we cannot be this dumb. He will opt out to sign for the megabucks... every person with five brain cells would do the same thing... which means only half of Jazzfanz would take the deal.
